I had that kind of “astroturf-y” feel from the Reddit comment as well, but their opinion about mod tools is not entirely wrong.

The fear-mongering about CSAM being all over the place hasn’t been my experience, though. I’ve never come across CSAM here on Lemmy (sorry to those who have), but I don’t tend to keep NSFW posts on because I cruise Lemmy at work.

The “Not enough mod tools” complaint is valid and I hope that improves as the platform moves forward.

I DO NOT get the disdain for the Lemmy userbase. I’ve been here for the past 4-5 months and can say I’ve had so many more meaningful and fulfilling conversations here on Lemmy than I ever did on Reddit in the 10 years I was there.

I think it’s the same situation as between a small town and a big city. Reddit is huge and with a large number of people; you’re going to statistically get a larger number of assholes. Not to mention there are tens of thousands of people commenting on anything that hits r/all, so there’s no chance someone else is going to read your 1 comment that is drowning in a sea of other comments.

Lemmy feels more like a small town. Things move a little slower here, but there’s less competition to have your voice heard, and I end up seeing some of the same users time and time again across the Fediverse. I think that smaller feel means more people have a chance to see your content without it getting drowned out by the masses, which means more opportunity to make connections.

Some people suck, but Lemmy has been fucking awesome for me so far and I love this place because of that.

Say Cheese and Die

If you haven’t played SOTN, I highly recommend you take a pitstop from platformers and try it now. I just played and beat it for the first time last week and it’s great.

Reasons for my suggestion:

1. It’s spooky season and the SotN theme fits well.
2. The game is beatable in one day.
3. The music is fantastic.

Is it just me or is it ridiculously hard to make out what’s going on in the cover art? It’s like there’s not enough contrast or something.

Always enjoy meeting another fan! We really should get a community together here on Lemmy. There’s dozens of us! Dozens!

Real talk: Original iRO were some of the best gaming times of my life. I loved the grind.

I’m a genuine believer that meditation and self-reflection should be a part of everyone’s daily routine. Know that it won’t produce a targeted improvement in any one area, though. Meditation is more for general well-being.

You could print out your PGP public key. Niche AF, but if I saw this person at a party I’d high five them.

Gotten better and better over time.

I’ve learned to always have a backup account on another instance and that’s decreased my downtime to almost zero.

I prefer the content here to Reddit, as Reddit seems to just be clickbait these days.

My favorite thing here is the community. Much less likely to encounter an asshole and even when people disagree, they seem to argue in good faith. Love the Lemmy/knib community feel.

I love that “No one can stand him” Is a good reason for expulsion. The human trafficking wasn’t enough.

Real answer? Because technology could easily do it for you if people tag posts in OP’s proposed way. Just one less thing for a viewer to have to think about.

SPOILER:

Here’s the narrative: A group of friends were taking a ride in a hot air balloon one day. After some time, the igniter which gave their balloon altitude broke and they began descending faster and faster. After dropping all of their sandbags, the descent was only marginally slowed. They came to the conclusion that one of them must jump in order to save the rest. The leader tore off sticks from the railing of the wicker basket that made up the cradle of the balloon. Everyone drew straws and the subject of our story was the unfortunate man to lose. In order to give the man the best chance of survival from the fall, each passenger removed their clothes and tied them together to lengthen the rope they had aboard. They lowered the makeshift rope overboard. The group waited until they were close enough to the ground to hopefully allow the man to survive the fall. The man held firmly to the short straw he drew for good luck and climbed over the side of the basket to begin descending the clothes-rope. As he was nearly at the end, the knots connecting the clothes unraveled and the man fell before he was ready. He landed naked in a field, dead. His only possession was the fateful stick which sealed his fate.
