  • Do any of these features actually exist on flagship models? Because those are the ones carried and pushed by mobile providers. People aren't buying phones in a vacuum; most people have limited options when getting a new phone because it's often not worth the hassle to switch providers just to get the exact model phone you want.

  • Couldn't disagree more. Plenty of wired headphones and iems come with detachable/ replaceable cables. On the other hand wireless earbuds can be difficult to keep track of and easy to lose if one happens to fall out. If you lose one, congrats you have to buy a whole new set because they don't generally sell replacements and usually come paired from the factory meaning getting a second replacement wouldn't work.

I've got wired buds i bought ten years ago that are still kicking and wired headphones made in the late 80s that have only needed cup replacements. Wired headphones will cost half that of wireless for similar quality and if a cable is ever damaged and isn't detachable it really isn't difficult to solder in a new one.

  • Damn dude did you even read the comment you're replying to? The guy is literally saying "there's almost no way it's aliens, but we don't know what it is so we should figure out because science is good and we should be doing it." And you hit him back with "LMAO this dude thinks it's definitely aliens what an idiot!"

  • I am against abortion.

Pretty big yikes to start out with just a blanket statement like that, but you do you.

But someone else might be more libertarian (I am not a libertarian) yet view the Republican party as evil. Even if you think that person not a good person, calling them a nazi or a fascist doesn't really make sense.

I'm not really sure what you mean by this part other than you just think the term fascist is being applied in scenarios where there's just disagreement?

But it really isn't difficult to see the modern Republican party very much represents the ideals of fascism. It isn't even a stretch. Let's go through the definition of fascism:

"a political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition" - from Merriam Webster Online

    so in order:

    1. Exalts nation and often race of above the individual? Check.
    2. stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader? Seeing as how they tried to install Trump with a coup in 2021 I'd say that's a pretty easy check.
    3. severe economic and social regimentation? All you have to do is look at republican tax cuts to see that is a big fat CHECK.
    4. forcible suppression of opposition? Look at who supports the police force and what groups are typically on the receiving end of police brutality. Check.

As you can see it doesn't take waving a nazi flag or sieg heiling all over the place to fit at least some of the requirements to be labeled a fascist, and if we go by these metrics there are a lot of people actively supporting fascism in our country right now. I don't think the term is much overused to be honest.

  • When I did use twitter it was for being the fastest way to get news on events developing in real time. George Floyd protests, J6 coup attempt, start of war in Ukraine, etc. And not just national/world news but also local news. I don't really that type of use fits in to your two buckets and unfortunately I don't think Mastodon is quite there yet to fulfill this type of thing either, but I definitely think it could with more time and more users. Fuck the influencers and people looking for 'content' imo, when people are going to Mastodon with breaking news is when we'll know twitter is completely dead.

  • Had to look up his name, it was Saman Kunan who was a former Thai navy seal; he was lining the cave route with oxygen bottles when ironically he ran out and fell unconscious and died.

I was wrong though, it was actually one of the British cave divers working on the rescue that his pedo comment was directed towards.

  • That's kind of a strange complaint, given that there's always so many complaints about Nintendo ruining core gameplay mechanics in sequels. Lots of us want sequels as long as the gameplay loop hasn't changed much beyond adding a few new features. I would kill for another Paper Mario with PPM 64/Thousand Year Door mechanics but they're just straight up averse to doing exactly what you're accusing them of for a lot of their game series.

  • Not that I'm advocating for super in-depth tutorials or anything, but comparing the complexity of SMB to something like Pikmin is a bit disingenuous. In the former your options for inputs are run and jump, which is a lot less than having to corral little plant dudes using a whistle and splitting them up/using them for specific purposes.

Having said that I think the best compromise is to have a tutorial that tells you what you can do/what buttons do what without making you actually do those things just to check if you're too dumb to understand simple instructions. Also space out the instructions so that they happen while actually playing the game instead of in one big tutorial section right at the beginning.

  • Just as an FYI, MIDI does not make any sound; it's just data containing pitch and velocity information (among other things). Virtual instruments use midi information to make the sounds. Windows (and I assume other OSs) have default virtual instruments that make the sounds that you would hear when playing a midi file, but that would sound different playing the same file through other virtual instruments. It's a pretty common misconception.

On the other hand, don't you dare try to bring back music autoplaying when you load a page from the myspace era!

  • I liked it because it was a relatively well executed version of a concept that we don't see that often. Not many live action movies have stories from a Native American point of view and that felt fresh to me. Just as a general action movie it wasn't groundbreaking, but there was enough newness to keep me enjoying it, and it was still a Predator movie which gives a sense of familiarity that was comforting. If it takes giving awards to less-than-groundbreaking movies to get more movies with Native casts greenlit, then I'm for it but I could see how not everyone cares about that type of thing.

  • In the article it says airlines dont like this tactic because it cuts in to their profits. But that could only be true if their prices weren't actually based on the costs of a flight but were instead just designed to basically scam people. Why would a flight from FL to NC cost more than a flight from FL to NY that happens to stop in NC? Airlines are a fucking cartel.
