  • Granted I don’t exactly run in the conspicuous consumption crowd, so maybe I’m out of the loop. Cope Luwak was a thing I heard about in the late 90s but have never seen in the world, ever.

I suppose this is one of those products that has a reputation for being expensive so rich people buy it to flex and that creates some demand. Like gold pizzas or whatever other dumb shit gaudy nouveau riche assholes are doing to get attention.

I’m sure there are places in the world where you can forage the shits and have something unique, but I highly doubt that what makes its way to fintech bros in manhattan has any real value at all. Just a cruel gimmick.

  • I would assume that once you have a first mover on this sort of thing the incentives to flip go WAY up. Probably are only a few really good deals on the table and it’s first come first serve for anybody that can serve trump to the prosecutor.

Bet we see a big name flip in the next 72hrs.

  • Number 3 is an unstable condition that will quickly collapse into scenario 1 or 2. There are 18 gop members from districts Biden won in 2020. They can get elected as moderate dems easily if they want.

Game theory wise it goes like this. They call the motion and a speaker vote process starts. No winner (#3). Dems work quietly to see if they can forge a majority(#2), KM works quietly to try and pull a few dems. Getting dem votes for McCarthy is almost impossible (he needs too many and there just aren’t a lot of marginal dem members). If word gets out that either of those scenarios are looking fruitful, the freedom caucus will fold at the next vote (#1)

The likelihood of them having to fold after a day or two of votes and re-seat McCarthy is 9 in 10 or better. That other 1 in 10 is speaker Jeffries speaking for a new dem majority of 1 or 2 seats.

  • There is no threat in the motion to vacate. I doubt they follow through. Potential outcomes:

    1. The vote for a few days and are forced to give up and KM remains speaker.
    2. GOP members from moderate districts decide there future is more secure if they join the Democratic Party and Jeffries gets the gavel.
    3. The house remains without a speaker until the session ends.

There is no possible outcome where a more conservative member gets the gavel. None.

  • “Conservative” in the US is not a word that describes a set of policy preferences. Not even a suite of psychological proclivities. A conservative is a person who supports the tribe, without question or reservation. You cannot undermine trump’s conservative credentials, loyalty to trump is how the base defines conservatism. Anyone who tells you not to support trump cannot, in their view, be a conservative.

Doomed to fail from the start.

  • It’s an incredibly common sentiment, I am not sure it should be. It leads to more harm than good I think. You are not on a team with people who have the same skin color as you through all time. Being born in a place does not soil you with the past follies of the people that also lived there.

Should a German kid whose grandparents came to Germany from Tunisia in the 60s feel culturally responsible for the holocaust? If you say yes, you have to ask WHY. If you say no, you are probably implying a judgment about who is a REAL German and who isn’t.

    The whole concept sucks.

  • Do you think it’s weird to use the word “we” in that sentence? I was not involved, you didn’t make any of those decisions. People you don’t know did horrible shit to other people you don’t know.

There is not a we, I am responsible for my own decisions and actions. I feel completely free to look at the actions of others as despicable without any ownership of their actions. Why do people just accept that they are somehow tainted by the sins of people who came before?

  • Do what you want, but please stop posting jobs as remote unless you actually want to hire remote. I am applying for the posted remote job. I am open that I intend to work remote. Why the fuck am I getting an HR person on a phone screen telling me they really want people in the office??

Stop posting remote. You don’t want me and I don’t want you. We don’t need to talk!

  • A lot of people suffer when the gov shuts down but why would anyone care about people who are probably poor right? I mean, this is a political golden opportunity, what’s a few hungry kids or missed medication when politics is on the line?

  • We have reached the point where I want answers from any person or organization that is still active on twitter. They are actively legitimizing nazis. If you are on twitter, you are part of the problem. I’m not gonna draw lines around which people on a right wing reactionary platform are the “good ones” any more.

  • It is free speech as I would define it. The UAW had decided foolishly to communicate on a platform run by and for right wing reactionaries. Those asshats are free to moderate however they like, it’s their platform.

Stop using twitter you idiots! Using twitter gives legitimacy to the platform. The platform’s spreads nazi hate speech. What possible excuse does the UAW have for giving legitimacy to a nazi platform???

  • Honestly I assumed that the critical reception would be middling, the zeitgeist is done with this studio and it’s games. Which is completely fair they are janky and weird and frankly often break in un-fun ways.

It’s a BGS game warts and all and I had a great time with it. I love these big, ambitious, broken games and this is a better than average one of them.

  • 15k units in a city the size of NY seems like peanuts to me. I would be shocked if that creates any noticeable downward pressure on housing prices in the city. Might increase the cost to travel to NYC and depress tourism a bit, but I doubt even that will be a huge effect.

  • You gotta choose. Dig messy holes at home, make friends with china, or rapacious exploitation of developing nations.

Which one do you like best?

I’m not advocating for a bunch of nasty mines in my backyard. I’m just pointing out that “not mining” is a choice that is pretty ugly also.

  • I mean reject all you want but unless you have the force of arms to keep Chinese ships out of those waters… well, them’s the breaks.

That is not a defense of Chinese imperialism, just the reality of how human tribes control territory.

If only those countries had strong ally that could easily enforce the treaties and international law. I bet modi had fun at the BRICS party. And TSMC killing that fab in AZ is surely in the best interest of the TW people.

  • Hundreds of years later, they still have to do penance for having the temerity to not just revolt against the slave masters but to win. White Europeans have been making an example of them ever since.

The history of the Americas is a pretty sad story. Not humanity at its best.

  • Seriously the epa doesn’t even bother to rate mpg in vehicles that approach rivian weight. An f250 probably gets a combined 15mpg. It weights 6k lbs vs the rivians 7k. if your only seeing a 50% cut in emissions with the switch to electric. A rivian truck is pretty much the same as an ICE car that gets around 30 combined.

There are a million reasons that drive them to make these monsters. But the climate isn’t one. I don’t care about the market forces. I care about cutting CO2 emissions. These vehicles do not help that mission today. The CEO is wrong. His vehicles don’t make sense TODAY except as a luxury product for rich people to signal their virtue. That’s it.

  • Yes. The OP is about how TODAY it is silly to use ICE. Today it is silly to pretend that electric cars are clean. They will be at some point. At that point, I will agree with the obnoxious CEO from the article. Today, he is wrong, very heavy (7-8k lbs) coal powered trucks are not clean.

    Make them smaller!
