I’ll be honest, when I first heard that Mozilla had come out with an AI I figured it was on the back of them trying a couple different ad scenarios, and assumed the worst. Pleasantly surprised by Orbit.
Actually, their new AI thing is actually useful: stays on-device, and summarizes web pages and videos.
But yes, they could stand to spend more money on the browser, and less on their CEO and other non-browser things.

I live to be a pain

I'm lookin' for the rain” - Gilda Radner
Is there a link to the actual video? Don’t see it in that story or the one it references.
No affiliation, just following them on Bandcamp and saw this, this morning. A little harsher than their self-titled.
Yeah, no kidding. I just bought tickets for a $15 show that has multiple bands and included a overseas band. I mentioned to them that they should’ve upped the prices to $20.
Also: Sturgeon‘s law still applies: “90% of everything is crap“. Music is so amazingly easy to make these days you can do it on your phone (and I believe a Grammy nominated/winning album did so). Which means that there are literally thousands of albums every year, And so there will be a lot of crap. But between Bandcamp and Spotify and SoundCloud (and so on, even self-hosting), this is the freaking plutonium age if you like new music. There is literally so much that you can’t possibly keep up with it, even in sub genres. And there are some amazing gems coming out daily

Anybody else look at that and say “it doesn’t mimic acupuncture if it doesn’t pierce the skin, does it?” At the least, do it in the wrong spot

Anytime, always happy to talk prog++
Night Verses, Cloudkicker, The Algorithm -Brute Force, Sgaile, Wintersun, and then to mix it up a bit: Standards, and Lantlös
Which prog bands?

But there are other reasons - willingness to have temporary higher temps in exchange for fewer/no brownouts/blackouts.

Um, not even close. Unfortunately they range from “fine with it” to “actively support genocide” with Israel, but they’re not even in the same realm. See Ukraine and NATO for 2 counterexamples, and authoritarians have entered the chat.

Yeah, that sounds weird alright, but the trailer looks cool. Thanks!

Unsure WHICH one of the TWDY this is, but tickets just went on sale.

And the entirety of Brute Force. “Engage Brute Force Attack”. Shellcode, userspace, deadlock… such a fantastic album.

Only a couple post-rock albums for me. But good on GIAA for releasing an album today! Including the others because hey, isn’t the old saying “math rock is just post rock with more Tapping?“
shikimi by te' (math)
Embers by GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT
Mantles by Layers in Lairs (math, asiwyfa/battles is my reference)
Girlfriends by Girlfriends (tappy math)
Star Showers On The Euphrates by *Ancients (so good)
Rosewood by Kaguu
I’m fortunate enough to be able to support bands by buying their albums. Especially today, when Bandcamp doesn’t take a cut. Here’s my Math rock portion.
shikimi by te' - Japanese instrumental post/Math Rock. Busy and fun. More on the rock side of things.
Mantles by Layers in Lairs - like Battles and ASIWYFA had a kid. Bearcubbin-related, another new band to me.
Girlfriends by Girlfriends - came really recommended. Tappy goodness. Alas, a one-shot.
Rosewood by Kaguu - Math/Prog EP that’s upbeat and whimsical.
Didn’t expect to ever see these guys on tour, but they have a handful of dates here. And yes, the name is a play on American Football
And Abelia (Dallas support) is great, saw them at Plus Fest. Looks like the support bands are local to their area

Title undersells it. There's an actual festival in the Netherlands this weekend, celebrating Pelagic Records bands. So there are performances by ASIWYFA (playing the entire new album), Oh Hiroshima, The Ocean (playing the entirety of Pelagic) and a ton more. Free livestream, here's Saturday's video.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNKIcVHQ56M.
Sunday has The Ocean again, but also Ihsahn. I'm psyched to see Spurv, Briqueville, and EF. Tell your post-rock/post-metal/math-rock friends!
Parts remind me of Battles, but also Zefs Chasing Cara. Electronic-twinged math-rock.
The decision revives a lawsuit filed by 94 women who said their OB-GYN sexually abused them. Previously, a lower court determined that the actions they alleged had to be treated as medical malpractice.

twinkly math-pop with vocals. Guitar effects sometimes remind me of ASIWYFA. Surprisingly nice.

I have no idea why this is in my library, but I came across it trying to figure out which artists I listened to qualified as math rock, and these guys sound like a combination of Battles and Legos, at least this track does.

Saw this band at plus fest in Denton this past weekend. Very impressed with them. Hope y’all dig this!
Unsure where I came upon this, but thought I would share. Post rock with some horn, probably would file it under “crescendocore“, reminds me a bit of We Lost The Sea. Takes a bit to get started, but that last track is a monster.
Kudos to everyone at @AndysDenton for throwing an amazing day one of Plus Fest. I got to see Cloutchaser, Invalids, Space Corolla, Elders, Abelia, Donella Drive and more!
Invalids put on a fantastic show ( I love tappy math rock, and several of the bands met that bar for me - the photo is of some triple-tapping action courtesy of Invalids) but I was super impressed with everyone. If you get the chance next time, do go! It’s a really small venue, great staff, and a lot of heart and hard work. Thanks y’all!
Buy tickets for Invalids concerts near you. See all upcoming 2024-25 tour dates, support acts, reviews and venue info.
Just found out a couple of weeks ago that the band Invalids is going on tour starting this week! They are playing the entirety of Eunoia, at least at the show in Denton, Texas. I found them when Permanence came out, so I’m looking forward to it
I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge fan of the vocals, but it definitely is tappy math-rock, which is my go-to. Hope some of y’all can make the various shows. And the show in Denton also has Clout Chaser, so it ought to be interesting. :)
No real evidence, just an encounter with what was probably a black bear.

I am looking at these two, trying to find a deal on the Pro 2022 that makes it close to the price of the 13" 2024 Air. Right now the "deals" are still in the $999 range for it, as opposed to $800 for the Air. Which sucks - seems like the 2022 is still better, but $200 is $200. I have a pro 10.5" now, but the lure of bigger has finally won out, years later. Trying to see if I'm missing anything - on paper the 2022 is still better, even if older.
Advantages of the Pro 2022:
- FaceID, not TouchID
- Promotion display (120hz vs the Air's 60hz)
- can run external display
Advantages of the Air 2024:
- Cheaper
- Newer - supported longer?
- ? Anything else?
Don’t know how I’ve never come across this, but this made me laugh and cry and nod appreciatively.

Instead of a “renaissance man”, I’m a “renaissance nerd”. Pinball? Sure. Sci-fi? Of course. video games? Natch. 70’s Italian Prog-rock? A raison d’etre.
