What is something you don't like, that you wish you did like? and why
  • The sound of dogs barking. If I liked that, I‘d be so happy every single day. I‘d wake up and go to sleep to a sound I enjoy. As it is, I will have to move and rent is even more expensive now, just depressing.

  • Climate extremists
  • This comic also illustrates well why I won‘t create any children. I‘m already feeling anxiety and despair over the climate, I can‘t imagine how much worse it would be for me with kids.

  • Which beloved artist of your country should I mention with your compatriots to warm up the atmosphere?
  • The only artist I would personally get excited about if someone foreign knew of them is the author Thomas Bernhard (Austria), but he was famous and infamous for hating Austrian culture and it wouldn‘t go over well with many others here I suppose.

So I posit some more widely liked people: Mozart, Falco or Arnold Schwarzenegger.

  • What is a good hobby for a depressed person?
  • Reading books. I enjoy it so much because it distracts me from depression, but depending on the book, it also can be enlightening in some ways and doesn‘t require me to really do much or go anywhere.

  • No one is forcing you to work
  • That feels like a musical chairs approach to this issue, where people who find a good job are lucky and sit in that and the rest shuffle between the shitty job leftovers. I recently found a decent job and it‘s only cause the guy retired after 30 years. Now I can only hope they will keep me on, or else I get to participate in that awful game again. Or maybe it will turn shitty for some other reason, like how there is no raises and my rent keeps going up anyway.

We even got unions in my country, and still we ended up like this where a lot of people switch jobs every few years to try and keep up with inflation. I’m not saying don’t take that step though. Sorry, I got no point I think? Just a rant your comment inspired in me.

  • Is it just me, or are conspiracy theories trending right now?
  • There is a website I like to use, News Minimalist: https://www.newsminimalist.com/

And what was striking to me is, how many articles with highest significance score were about the climate in the last few weeks. Yet barely anybody is talking about it around me, and if I do bring it up everyone is quick to complain about the protesters who block roads.

I feel pretty lost, have been for a while. My username is basically, condensing my feelings about humanity. I do hope for a better future, but I don‘t believe in it myself anymore, if that makes sense.

  • Economic worries are prompting young Europeans to delay or forgo parenthood
  • Me neither, but if my body hurts and I‘d have euthanasia I would welcome it. I just saw a lot of suffering from my parents and grandparents before their deaths, so that is usually where my mind goes when discussing the topic.

I know it is pretty bleak and pessimist in my head and I already deleted another comment cause I think I‘m maybe getting too personal about myself now. I do hope everyone has as nice and painless of an existence as is possible. Let‘s leave it at that.

  • Economic worries are prompting young Europeans to delay or forgo parenthood
  • Maybe it can be addressed, maybe they’ll tax the rich and fix the climate both, who knows, but my history and worldview suggest that it won‘t be. My impression of people around me is: they are turning towards fascism instead. They hate foreigners and everyone other and deny climate change. All I see is the upcoming fights between ethnicities, religions, political ideologies and so on as resources dwindle with droughts and floods. I also don‘t relish this high quality of life as much as I "should", because I have more empathy with others than is good for me. Like consuming stuff which is made by slaves, it‘s often I get told of some horror some company committed, it becomes impossible to live a life I consider good when others have to suffer for it.

It‘s fair to point this out though, because it’s true, I am unusually strong pessimist about existence. Not many people around me are like this, most here seem optimistic, with maybe only a hint of this pessimism in some topics. I wouldn‘t draw any conclusions about Western Europeans in general from my comments, actually.

  • Economic worries are prompting young Europeans to delay or forgo parenthood
  • Oh, I misunderstood sorry. Well I don‘t have any qualms about that either, if the society don‘t want to sustain me anymore I don‘t mind dying earlier, they can give me euthanasia if it‘s such a huge issue. I‘m honestly over this implied duty I‘m supposed to feel to sustain this scheme, let‘s just be glad I‘m channeling all my disdain for it into useless social media rants, while still following most of it‘s rules and duties as best I can anyway.

The one implied duty I simply won‘t follow is the one about dragging anyone into existence, if procreation were mandatory I‘d rather go to prison instead, that is how protective I feel of my non-existent kids.

  • I don‘t know what I‘ll do in 35~ years, but if it‘s still a thing by then, then sure I will take advantage of it, I paid into it all my working life after all. I also try to save a bit, but inflation eats all of it up anyway probably.

If the young people don‘t want to sustain this and it gets repealed, I guess I will work until I am unable. If I became unable, I hope they at least provide me with euthanasia or otherwise I guess I’d have to haunt the streets as a homeless spectre to scare them into making the rich richer. Tough choices! Maybe I get lucky and die of cancer in my 40s like my parents instead.
