Israel-Hamas war: Ceasefire in Gaza chances shrinking, Qatar says
  • I mean, Israel has been honest about their intentions from the beginning. It's other governments that are saying otherwise; desperately praying that their citizens have no reading or listening comprehension, so they can funnel more taxpayers' money into enriching weapon's merchants.

  • ‘A mass assassination factory’: Inside Israel’s calculated bombing of Gaza
  • Well, we'll find out about other militaries soon enough. Stock prices for weapon's manufacturers have been booming. The US and EU want a convenient weapon's testing ground and a canal to gas fields out of this.

The biggest loser is always innocent civilians at home and abroad.

  • What is the last m̶e̶ Book you have read?
  • I finished Barrayar by Louis Mcmaster Bujold and had a really great time from start to finish. Gripping, funny, and just plain thought provoking, I can see why it won a Hugo award and Locus award.

  • West risks being complicit in Israeli war crimes, warn Arab and Muslim foreign ministers
  • Judging from how brisk weapons sales have been? Not only are these governments complicit, they are delighted at the death of Palestinians.

  • In the West Bank, Israeli Settlers Are Burning Palestinians’ Olive Trees
  • The settler colonists have so little love for thousand year old indigenous trees the metaphor almost writes itself. They will grow imported pine trees after they're done.

  • [Thread] Sunday Fun Day! What're you listening to today???
  • The entirety of Hozier's Unreal Unearth album. Again. What can I say, I'm hooked.

  • Birthday dinner for my wife
  • Your rendang looks really good!

  • [New Music Friday] New Releases for August 18, 2023
  • The new Hozier album is just so good!

  • [Question of the Week] What is your favorite concept album?
  • Divers by Joanna Newsom. I love the cyclical arrangement of her songs with the last line of her last song looping back to the first line of her first song. I think it really illustrates what she's trying to say about the nature of love and time.

  • What's the best thing you kept from one of your exes?
  • Diamond earrings from one. A purse in the shape of Luna from Sailor Moon from another.

  • Musical bootlegs or proshots?
  • I think that's a little bit more difficult since most people want to trade. Sometimes someone will put their collection on google drive and share via links on tumblr or twitter, but those occasions are few and far in between.

  • Improving soil could keep world within 1.5C heating target, research suggests
  • Ooh, fun fact! Did you know the It Ain't Much But It's Honest Work meme guy was a proponent of no till farming and was a leader in the movement advocating for and utilizing the farming practices suggested in this article?

Dave Brandt passed away in May this year, but his honest work? It meant so much.

  • ‘This is a death sentence for me’: Florida Republican women say they will switch parties after DeSantis approves alimony law
  • According to the article, permanent alimony is granted only if the receiver agrees to give up other assets in exchange. So it's more of a trade.

  • Is places like Mastodon, Twitter, and this Threads thing just places for people to just write some blurb?
  • Oh, for that use case then Twitter is a bit different. Information on Twitter moves fast and you can get quick, bite-sized updates on a company or event (via tags) much quicker than most sites. The ease of sharing information made it very popular for things like announcing updates on website/app down times or catching up on election news for example.

  • Is places like Mastodon, Twitter, and this Threads thing just places for people to just write some blurb?
  • I'm upvoting you purely for describing Twitter as "Live Journal with a text limit". That is exactly what it is and with infinitely less privacy or conversational value.

  • Soulseek via Nicotine+, you can filter for file type and bitrate as well as avoid those assholes who lock all their files for trading.

  • Ho Chi Minh City, November 2022
  • I found HCMC very walkable and there were so many trees and parks that even the heat was bearable.

Completely agreed about the War Remnants Museum, it moved me to tears within minutes. I'm from Malaysia, one of the places where Agent Orange was first trialed before it was put to use as a weapon, so that particular exhibition hall was so personal since a family friend was born disabled because of it.

On a lighter note, there was a bánh mì chảo place within a 15 minutes walk from the War Remnants Museum that was so good I am still dreaming about it to this day.

  • Ho Chi Minh City, November 2022
  • I was in Ho Chi Minh a few weeks ago! It's a beautiful and exciting place.

  • What are some fun songs to sing karaoke to?
  • Poker face by Lady Gaga! Anything that lets you shamelessly yell to be honest.
