Puerto Ricans must vote for Kamala Harris
  • Puerto Rico citizens have US passports...

  • Games that restore faith in the industry?
  • Baba is you, great little puzzle game

  • Terminally ill Borderlands fan asks if there's any way he can see Borderlands 4 early, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford says "we're going to do whatever we can to make something happen"
  • I actually really enjoyed the Eldritch horror storyline. Though overall it's a somewhat forgettable story. Still better than Pre-Sequel in my mind. But I'm the odd one out I know

  • Do any anarchists here support "AES"?
  • Yeah worker owned businesses are lit. As are communes.

  • Book launch!
  • Books without Dinosaurs are communist propaganda and should be removed from shelves! Also Dinosaurs are Satanic propaganda and books featuring them should be removed from shelves! /S

  • Do any anarchists here support "AES"?
  • AES is a solid symmetric encryption standard. I support the use of it. However I think you might be referring to something else?

  • 2024 Self-Host User Survey Results
  • Who cares if they are trans? The more interesting question is what would make women generally more likely to self host? More free time? Different applications? Actually having a job in IT? Being single?

  • ‘They don’t think he’s talking about them’: Trump support rises with Latinos
  • Depending on your general philosophy, and how you value various issues, anything could be a selling point to someone. It's hardly a lost plot, a lot of people value the great equalizer. "God made man, Samuel Colt made man equal" -dunno who said it

  • How Couples Meet in the US
  • Why do you assume people are meeting on dating apps? I met my spouse in VR chat, and a few others I've had relationships with I met as mutuals on a Discord server... Online isn't necessarily Tinder

  • Home Depot
  • They do, it's not cheap, like $50

  • Large Majority of Americans Want to End Electoral College
  • I'll take better over perfect especially since better is on the ballot as an option this year for me, but who knows might try to get approval voting on the ballot for next time

  • SpacebarChat - a selfhosted, Discord-compatible communication platform
  • My instance is pretty fast. Run Conduwuit as the server, problem solved

  • Trump’s second assassination attempt is shocking, but attempts on presidents’ lives are not rare in US history
  • Well in Florida open Cary is illegal unless engaging in lawful hunting and fishing activities. Lots of little caveats like that all over the US

  • The internet is worse than it used to be. How did we get here, and can we go back?
  • I'm very much onboard with this. Idk if I'd say it's the libraries job though, I think it should be at the city level for community instances.

  • What is your favourite open source software that you discovered in the past year, that you can no longer live without?
  • conduwuit, a matrix home server it is so much faster and works so much better than the Dendriter server it replaced.

  • A Uruguayan company teaches people how to turn regular cars into EVs
  • It's been a thing for quite a while. I want to say about 10 years ago I was watching a bunch of off grid YouTube videos and more than a couple people turned their cars into short range EVs.

More recently I've seen a few videos from a professional shop in Cali that does it for classic cars, also you have Jerry Rig Everything converting a Humvee.

It's been a thing and will probably end up being more and more common

  • Navy officer lost job for secretly installing internet on warship to check social media
  • Yes rates are used most of the time in forms of address. However you do have a rank, for example E-5 or Petty Officer Second Class. However when addressing enlisted you'd usually say something like CTM2, IT2 etc... Until you hit chief then you are just called Chief, or senior if you are a Senior Chief, Master Chief doesn't get abbreviated to Master for obvious reasons, and MCPON is usually referred to as "mic pon" phonetically for Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy.

  • Alaska's revenge
  • Pikes Peak is a 14 thousand foot tall mountain in Colorado. It's one of the most iconic mountains of the US, and is sometimes referred to as Americas Mountain. However if you go north about 75 miles from pikes peak you are at Denver which usually makes simplified maps like this one, Pikes Peak is rarely noted on maps

  • Words truly matter
  • I mean technically the federal reserve is a ponzi scheme they charge interest on money printed requiring more money to be paid back than they printed. Ergo there isn't enough print money in existence to pay them back.

  • Locked
How do you make someone understand that being drafted by force and ordered to invade another country is not a good thing?
  • So, veteran here. I've tried to talk people out of joining the military or at least trying to avoid jobs with high probability of seeing combat. Usually the result is they just start prying about what combat is like and make statements about how much they want to experience it.

Another tack I haven't tried but it might be more effective, is to describe how miserable it is to have the stench of a burn pit wafting over you, always wondering if the distant gunfire will move in your direction, being stuck manning a 24/7 watch where if even one person who can do that job dies or is otherwise incapacitated you will be stuck doing 12hr shifts instead of 8. Then you get back home and have to fight tooth and nail for benefits from the country that fucked your life up in the first place.

War is hell, coming home is hell, forcing that on someone can only be justified if they are literally at home fighting off an invading force.
