  • 10 kg gold Dec. 2023 = ~$727,591 = $2062.92 * 10 * 35.27 oz/kilo

    10 kg gold June 1920 = ~$105,810 = ~$300 * 10 * 35.27 oz/kilo

seems much higher than the respective housing cost for an average home in both cases

    price ref

  • Friendly reminder that if your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) is less than $79,000 you can already do "Guided Tax Filing" for free. If your AGI is more than $79k, you can still do your taxes for free, but have to do them completely manually which is generally considered risky if you don't know what you're doing.

  • Totally. This semi-reminds me of the story that was floating around yesterday (I think), about Arby's Foundation wiping out student lunch debt for 8000 student in Georgia. Like, yes, that's great, but also... how fucking sad we leave it to the "goodness" of billionaire's charities so that checks notes* CHILDREN CAN BE FED?? Sad state of affairs

  • In democratic/liberal societies you solve your differences via debate

We have too little of this in our current society, I feel like. "Debates" are often just screaming matches and it's really annoying and holds back progress on all ends I fell like.

Also I wasn't vouching for being an asshole, just pointing out it's not illegal XD

  • There is a big difference in the messaging to young men by both the parties.

Republican - "You're going to have a job, a house, a wife and kids, and all you have to do is work hard and you can live the American Dream"

Democrat - "You are the oppressor and need education on why men and white people are bad"

You can see how one is more appealing than the other, especially to those who don't pay much attention to politics and maybe only hear a 30s political clip on social media once a week.

Disclaimer: not saying these are actually the alignments/messaging, just major annecdotal perceptions I have heard from people who describe themselves as "not a Democrat" and asked them "why not?"

  • Incorrect, the supreme court has many times over ruled "hate speech", which doesn't have a legal definition in the US, is protected under 1st amendment. Calling for violence is not.

I am free to say "I hate [insert protected class/person/group/etc]" without legal consequences.

Although I am technically free to say "Let's cause harm to/attack [insert protected class/person/group/etc]", legal consequences could follow since call to violence.

  • Agreed, bummer to see cancelled rather than delayed. That makes me think the technical reasons were either really difficult to overcome game breakers, or a complete scapegoat. "Technically we didn't want to put the time or money into these" style

  • former flight attendant at SpaceX

I think I missed the part that the flight attendant was employed by SpaceX and not a private jet company (not that would make his actions any better), but I think you're right, firing over speaking against harassment of a co-worker definitely sounds like retaliation, thanks.

  • Although i still disagree with using facebook at all, and sorta unsure what you mean by "because other people are using meta products and using them on you without telling you about it" (websites using meta based SaaS products maybe), if the facebook container extension is anything like the aws container extension, I bet it's a pretty good recommendation. Firefox ALWAYS the best recommendation

  • Maybe I'm dumb (probably), but how is it illegal to fire employees actively talking negatively publicly about you? Can't find any reasons in the articles and linked articles other than "violated rights", what rights?

I thought everywhere but Montana you could be fired or quit for any reason OR WITHOUT REASON ("at will" employment) unless otherwise stated in a contract or if for discriminatory reasons based on protected traits (race, age, gender, etc).

If that's the case, simply saying something like "those employees didn't fit in with what we want SpaceX culture to be" dismisses the case.
