What small tiny app have you found that not many people know about
  • I got a couple of apps I'd recommend in a heartbeat.

Spectdroid is a spectrogram app. Its unreasonable how often I'm using this app. I got some mild tinnitus that comes and goes and this app allows me to find out if I got some actual weird buzzing I'm the house or if it's just in my head.

And LocalSend is an amazing app for sending files between various devices and OSes over a local network. I no longer need to set up file shares, plug in my phone to a computer, or use cloud storage just to transfer over some files.

  • One big happy family.
  • I've gone with PopOs. Ubuntu based so well supported. They've been around for a while now so they won't disappear over night. Gaming just works.

I was on Nobara for a while and really liked it. but while glorious eggroll is the goat, I don't want to put my DE in the hands of a single person.

Since swapping the I've experienced one game crashing freeze (which I hope was a one off), and when screen sharing BG3 over discord it slows the game down to a crawl. But I blame discord for this one, as its fine when streaming from OBS.

  • Andrew Tate ‘raped and strangled us’ - women tell BBC
  • I'm sorry, but most people can go through puberty without masturbating in class (something I've been unfortunate to witness). You can have a healthy view on sex even in your teenage hormone phase. That's what sex positive education is about. Those teenagers that crave sex will have it, so it's best to just educate how to be safe about it. Andrew Tate and Trump are the exact opposites of being safe and having fun. Coercing or forcing yourself upon another person is the opposite of good sex. Yes, teenagers make mistakes, but the best we can do is shut down and call Tate and co out for the absolute incels they are.

  • It's almost like having the life objective to "score gals" isn't a very healthy or good goal to begin with. It's fine to be promiscuous and have lots of partners, but I don't believe the mannosphere is the way to get there.

  • The Irony of 'You Wouldn't Download a Car' Making a Comeback in AI Debates
  • "This process is akin to how humans learn... The AI discards the original text, keeping only abstract representations..."

Now I sail the high seas myself, but I don't think Paramount Studios would buy anyone's defence they were only pirating their movies so they can learn the general content so they can produce their own knockoff.

Yes artists learn and inspire each other, but more often than not I'd imagine they consumed that art in an ethical way.

  • Texas resident used Apple AirTags to discover plastics taken to Houston recycling centers aren't being recycled
  • Am I wrong I thinking that the CO2 emission from plastics is missing the point a bit. The issue in my mind is that the plastics remain in nature for a very long time with unknown health risks to us and the ecosystem.

When comparing a plastic bag vs a paper bag for shopping I hear the argument that making the paper bag has a lot more co2 emissions tied to it. But if I throw it in the bin it will be mulch before the end of the month.

  • Celebrating 6 years since Valve announced Steam Play Proton for Linux
  • Yeah the issue is I wouldn't want to compromise quality too much. But I might just start saving up now for whatever valve is cooking up next :) Another issue with using a quest is that you have to run the occulus app (when wired), eating up some of that sweet precious VRAM.

  • Celebrating 6 years since Valve announced Steam Play Proton for Linux
  • I got a Quest 3 that I use with a USB-c cable. Price is great but having to fiddle around with video compression settings on top of all other VR settings has proven to be a bit tedious. I'm still trying to figure out what pcvr headset to go for that won't complete drain my bank account (there's probably tons of used ones out there).

Glad to hear VR is possible and getting better on Linux though!

  • YouTube now shows number of likes instead of views a video gets.

But it seems to only do this in the home tab. Search and subscription tabs still show the view count.

    !

Now I don't think view count is much of an indication of quality for a video, but the number of likes even less so. It varies quite a bit even on video to video from the same creator depending on if a like is called out for, or audience type.

Certainly not the most egregious change they've made, but a bit of an odd one I can't quite figure out why.
