It’s because he has the energy and charisma that our current “leftist” leaders lack in Central America with a few exceptions. Our universities used to be hotbeds for Marxist activists and it wasn’t unheard of for left-wing strongmen to gain power even at the lower levels.

Most of our leftist parties either turned to infighting, neoliberalism, or just became ineffective. El Salvador got hit hardest by this and so you end up with a Bukele.

It’s a damn shame that this is what leftists are putting their hopes behind with the USSR gone.

China really needs to be more aggressive instead of letting these crybabies dog walk them with this shit.

Much like how Trump and his anti-immigration speeches have the Dems trying to jump aboard that, Bukele has managed to convince every Central American nation that they need to crack down harder on crime.

This election didn’t really prove they’re either as well. A record number of them went out to vote against trump in 2020 and this year most stayed home due to apathy. It’s not like Trump gained a wide number of new converts with him underperforming.

The opposition leader ran on reforming the public healthcare system and helping small business owners. This looks a lot like what happened in Venezuela. I’m a little hesitant to immediately call it a color revolution because I’m not that familiar with the politics of Mozambique.
