Before I start to reading the article: Why not start by NPCs in MMORPGs?

At least, it could nobody be harmed.

This magazine has a good impact factor as far as a quick search shows.

This just sounds like UBI with extra steps, and not very universal, as there won’t be as many “machine observing” jobs as there were jobs which the machine replaced.

You can make more and more bureaucracy. Someone must traine the machine observer, someone supervise them etc. There are no limits for the imagination.

Why not free up the newly unemployable portion of the population to pursue their passions and enjoy life, rather than mandating the existence of silly jobs for the sake of jobs?

Yes. The problem is, when one country has had a intelligence agency and the other has not, the one with the agency has a advantage. At least, under the same conditions.

I see the tension between a republican (res publica, "thing of the public") State and the existence of such secrets. The question is if a state without this could exist under the current circumstances. There are a lot room for doubts here, I fear.

That’s true, but if robots are cheaper than humans, no company would employ humans for the sole purpose of being customers. That’s not how companies work. Any company which does so will quickly lose to a competitor which doesn’t.

Thats just half true. You overlook cases like bureaucracy or neptonism, when people help others into companies.

It would be esay for the US gouverment to force companies to hire persons, even for silly activities like "machine observing". You just need to make a Act of Congress which requieres something that needs a human. Doesn't matter. The cooperations would make an effort to hire really humans, in order to prevent a lawsuid. The courts would just say, "okay, this is the federal law, any cooperation which makes a trade between the States needs to follow it". Some applies for the EU, China, Japan etc.

Is this less efficient than a AI based system? Sure. They will make some exaptions.

The new technology has advantages and disadvantages. If you argue just from this angle, the gouverment comes to bad ideas like just to prohibit AI.

But this can be the causal root of the recent changes. Populations aren't declining because of famine, but because people aren't having more children.

Your argument need some middle step or mediator like "people already realizing the comming problems and react with getting less childeren". But is this really the case? I mean, we observe the decline even in places like north korea or by groups who denied clima change or simply don't care.

Maybe, the emerging problems of clima change are part of the creation of a pessimistic worldview or something.

Capitalism is growth based. It requires infinite growth in order to operate normally, and we are on a finite planet.

Nothing within socialism points to growth of any kind, and well-structured socialism can even function well under degrowth conditions.

• Older individuals needs help from the socity in order to survive and have goods like clothes and so on.
• The help in questions has to be provided my at least middle aged individuals. They must spend resources like money, energy etc. on it.
• If you have significant more older individuals than younger ones, you got a really problem with the resources.

Even a socialistic society has to follow this logic since their resources, like the workforce of younger people, are limited.

The situation we'll face in the near future, the situation of having more and more older individuals, while we need resources for a lot of other fields like AI, political stuff and clima, would be problem in any human society. In every society which suffer the problem of limited resources.

I think so, too. But in my imagination, one who uses tor or a remailer is just a short flash on the radar. If it doesn't follow more, they would not investigate further. Since 90% or so of all tor users doesn't do anything bad. Even agencies doesn't like wasting of time and resources.

If you just want to exchange email with your friend when you are both on the down low, you might be best off just both enrolling gmail accounts.

With Google, I think, it will nearly 100% sure that it is tracked somehow. If both sides have no problem with this, its fine.

I have heard there was a recent development in single server PIR (private information retrieval).

I remember, I have read, over 5 years ago, a PDF-File from a German university about this. It was a so called "blinded read"-method.

I have a vagly idea how this can work but I lack the mathematical knowleade to explain it further.
