Rodney Anonymous being one of them. Well I guess he's not necessarily indy? Though he's definitely not mainstream. Outside of Punk Rock Girl I'm not sure how much else of their catalog got play.. But they are legends up in Philadelphia. Which is where he DJs once a month for ynot radio.

The fediverse provides a platform individuals can completely control if they want. Or at least be free of a lot of unsavory restrictions and associations. And for a punk group like Rodney's, that is even more important.

You don't always need an expensive microphone. But a pop filter can make a much bigger impact than you would believe. Honestly the thing I see a lot of YouTubers using often that seems to work out quite well are lavalier mics. Not the traditional desktop microphones.

A lavalier microphone attached to a collar or lapel. Is generally outside of the direct path of your voice. So the need for pop filtering Etc is reduced. Though many of them do provide filters for it. Further since they are generally clipped to you the distance between you and them doesn't change much. Meaning that your levels stay much more consistent and even. No leaning away from mic and then back in. And they sometimes have a few less issues with assonance.

That's not even touching the headaches that can be simply capturing footage or streaming in obs. That rabbit hole goes deep. It's also a lot of fun with a lot of opportunity to be creative.

And as I said in my other post I just don't tend to listen to many podcasts at all. I have listened to behind the bastards a little bit in the past, Pod save America a couple times. Even the Retro hour a few times with RMC. But it's just never been something that I have a lot of time available to focus on or desire to. Though I might give it a try.

That's how it was DJing for me. I never made a lot of money. But I always enjoyed sharing the music. LOL, perhaps someday I will find someone to pay me to do it. But not everyone can be as lucky as Rodney anonymous. Of course it doesn't hurt that he was famous as well:-)

Some certainly do. I've never been much of a podcast person myself. The closest I follow is the Cody Showdy AKA some more news. but it's a bit more Straight Up Performance than just basic podcast.

I do watch a lot of tech YouTubers. And have done some shows myself. I know the amount of time and effort that can go even into simple ones. They require a lot of passion and drive to produce. And especially for topics like this where there isn't a lot of money in it. It's definitely deserves some respect.

Absolutely. And that's the real problem. Until we get that figured out. I don't think anything is going to change. Today we have all the information in the world at our fingertips. But also all the disinformation in the world. Critical thinking is the only thing that can separate them. But it's A Hard Sell unfortunately. At least until someone's life or personal possessions depend on understanding it. So there is some hope that only after things have gotten far too bad.

Certainly to an extent. Though the fediverse model is much more elegant and clear. Plus it offers massive benefits to organizations. Seeking to have communities and comms that they can truly call their own. Maintaining as they see fit. The KDE and blender groups for instance have their own servers and their own communities on them. That they can manage and focus on just their projects. No missing on the servers with toxic political communities like leninists or fascists. Just their projects and only their projects or things related to it.

The problem is they don't value objectivity. Just objects and subjectivity.

It's the beauty of federation. Under reddit etc. If a community you were interested in had shit admins, there wasn't much you could do. Here you can create your own theme park with hookers and blackjack. Growing it to build something great.

Does it create duplication? Yes some. Though new backends like piefed are supposed to be addressing it a bit. But more importantly it creates competition.

Oh even further than that. All the way back to the '60s and 70s easily. With his persecution of blacks and the Central Park 5. Immigrants are just the most recent Target of his narcissistic bigotry.

Our media at every level barely ever served us. But it's complete failure in the last half century only facilitated all this. Even those of us here are at risk of being encapsulated in our own little media bubbles and manipulated.

Not sure how we get ourselves out from this. Individually we can value and employ critical thinking. But how do you convince people at Large? When confirmation bias is so much more comforting.

Because nationalist groups when they aren't pitted against each other have a lot in common. It's why Trump likes Bibi, Xi and Putin.

Post war Zionists manipulated international sympathies to make official claims to Palestine and seize control from the people who had actually lived there generations, displacing them. Much as Hitler had done to them. Initially there were many other places discussed to relocate many Jews after the war. It wasn't always just Palestine. But the nationalists demanded Palestine.

Yes and no. Trump is two faced. He regularly holds multiple conflicting positions. He told everyone what they wanted to hear. Compounding the problem, many people build media and information / confirmation by us bubbles around themselves. Where the conflicting message never penetrates. Not to say that there aren't plenty who hear the conflicting message but don't really care.

Fediverse centric podcast. I've never watched/listened. But I regularly see episodes through the new que on Lemmy. They even host on peer tube.

Come on and cut them a little slack. What besides everything the man has ever done would ever lead them to think that he would betray them?

I suppose it's an easy pipeline. Since there aren't any real substantial differences between the two.

Because the major instances are the ones most likely to need support. That and many of them good or bad try to look neutral.

Because for better or worse. Tanky central is the flagship development server for the Lemmy software. And if as an admin you want your issues or concerns to at least pretend to be heard. You must give the campist undue deference.

Your server at least also has a piefed interface. Don't know if world ever will. Though I definitely would encourage it.
