Goverlay/Mangohud issues
  • for a complete unisntall you should just be able to run sudo pacman -Rns <package_name> or yay -Rns <package_name> depending on how it is installed.

    since you're doing a complete unsinstall and reinstall, you should be able to just run sudo pacman -Syu <package_name> or yay -Syu <package_name> and it will completely reinstall. If you are worried you have a corrupted download of the file, clear your package cache completely and run those commands, it should download a clean program install file and reinstall.

    I'm not familiar with Mangohud and Goverlay, so unfortunately can not help our further, but maybe one of our other community members can.

  • KDE 6.1 Released Today
  • it's a way to keep info going into community so it doesn;'t get stagnant and others can find it.

    I would change the community name but the only way to do that is by deleting the whole community and starting over again. Also people do make scripts for new packages, This way they can know what changes they might need for their scripts if use any.

    This also allows people to know about upcoming changes which will allow more help in troubleshooting issues that happen.

  • KDE Plasma 6 wakiing up display issues
  • have you tried the 555 beta driver?

    Since this seems to affect your montior, I'm kind of leaning towards this being more of an nvidia issue. I would recommend trying the 555 beta driver to see if that fixes it at all. Worse case scenario you might have to wait for KDE 6.1 to hit the repos to see if that helps too.

    I don't use nvidia myself so I can't readily check it nor am i aware of how to install the beta driver, i think it's in the AUR.

    Lemmy.zip Turns One!
  • Congratulations to everyone who has been here from the beginning as well as to all our users that continue to make this feasable.

    And a large thank you to Demigodrick for starting such a wonderful endeavour.

  • Is Lemmy a good alternative?
  • You do get notified. I got banned from worldnews@hexbear because I was too controversial in m comment. Basically they didn’t like the truth that I laid out with evidence and links.

  • If a universal basic income started today with the stipulation that you had to put 40 hrs/wk towards making the world a better place or solving societal problems, how would you spend your time?
  • I’d stay home that way I’m not adding to societal problems.

    Seriously though, the ONLY stipulations that should be put on UBI are:

    1.) do you make over $100,000/year? This info is easily obtained from your W-2 that you are given every year for taxes.

    2.) do you own a business? Once again easily obtained via public record and filing of your taxes via 1099 forms.

    3.) are you over the age of 18? Once again easily verified through birth certificate dates via public record based on your social security number/resident green card (after 5 years of documented residency in the country. )

    All this info is in government databases so there would be no concern of undocumented immigrants able to receive said funds or people getting more money because of having minors in there home.

    You shouldn’t have to apply for it, hence the term universal.

  • Unionize. Have companies pay you fairly for what you do.

    The problem with that here I. The states are two fold. First of all if the companies could, at least here in the states, they wouldn’t allow unionization. They don’t want to pay fairly for what you do. All these companies want to do is make as much money as possible, while paying the workers as little as possible.

    Most of the companies here would like us to work until we die on the lines, but pay us nothing to do the work so they could make it all. Companies don’t give a damn about workers rights, or being fair to us. A lot of non-union shops will fire you for trying to bring a union in. They would be extremely happy if the labor boards, OSHA etc would cease to exist.

  • How long does it take to build LibreWolf?
  • First, this would be a better question to ask in a Linux specific community.

    Second, Build time is really subjective to the computer and its hardware. There could be bottlenecks at the cpu/memory from the motherboard that will slow it down. It also depends on whether you’re spinning rust or using an ssd.

    There are a lot of factors involved in the whole that makes it hard to definitively say how long something takes to build.

  • Come on Barbie lets go Party
  • Pretty much the only time we need passports is if we travel outside the U.S. and territories. Those that take cruises or cross borders to other countries would, but generally speaking a majority of Americans don’t have passports.

  • Come on Barbie lets go Party
  • Money for the most part for a lot of people.

    Passports are $400+ USD, then there are the plane tickets, which are hundreds of dollars. Then to top it off you need to have room and board while looking for a job and someplace to live.

    Another thing I’ve heard is fear of leaving the known and family.

    What is your primary use of Linux? (mega thread)

    Alright everyone, let’s get this party started. The title asks the question pretty well. What is the main use of your Linux install? Is it gaming, programming, just to dump windows etc…

    Let’s have some fun everyone.

    Engagement with community

    Hey everyone, just wanted to touch base with y’all. I’m really a little worried about our community.

    As of this writing we have 295 members, but we only have 11 posts, including this one. We really need to get some quality posting going on here.

    So this is what I was thinking, let’s start a mega thread of conversations around Linux in general. I would like to see what we can get going here. Also please talk to your friends that are on here and invite them to the group.

    I know a lot of us, myself included, tend to just lurk until something pops up for us to interact with. I’m asking everyone here to help interact with our community. We aren’t just a help desk here, we can also have fun conversations.

    Chicken Cordon Bleu

    This was tonight dinner. It came out great although next time m adding more cheese to the center.

    I also used deli sliced cooked ham for sandwiches instead of a thicker cut. I might double the slices of ham next time although it was delicious as it was.

    The recipe I used.

    Smothered boneless pork chops

    Like the title says. Smothered boneless pork chops and green beans for dinner. So simple and inexpensive to make.

    In a large cast iron pan add oil on medium high heat and sautee a small onion in the pan once hot, light smoking from oil. When the onion is almost finished add 1 teaspoon minced garlic. Remove from pan when garlic is blackened. Place pork chops seasoned with sea salt and oregano in pan and sear for 5 mins per side, flipping twice. While pork chops are cooking make a slurry of 1 1/4 cups of milk and 2 teaspoons of corn starch.

    Reduce heat to medium low, remove pork chops and set aside. Add milk with corn starch to pan and begin thickening, about 1 minute or so. Add onions and blackened garlic to sauce and mix to reheat onions. Place pork chops back in pan and cover with sauce, let simmer 5 minutes. Serve with side of choice and dinner roll if desired. Enjoy.

    Tonight dinner made from scratch pizza

    This is a delicious pizza. It’s got homemade Italian pork sausage, pepperoni, green peppers and bacon.

    Basically a pork lovers pizza with freshly chopped green peppers. I put mozzarella cheese on the pizza sauce. Chopped up some fresh green pepper, then the pepperoni and sausage followed by Colby jack cheese and bacon bits. Bake for 18 minutes at 450 degrees (F). I am also including the recipe for the crust below.

    1 cup hot water (105-110 degrees F)

    1 TBSP active yeast (not rapid rise)

    1 TBSP granulated white sugar

    3 -3 1/2 cups all purpose flour ( do not use self rising)

    1 TBSP olive oil ( you can use vegetable oil if you want)

    1 tsp salt

    In a large mixing bowl add yeast and sugar then add water. Allow yeast to activate, it will look foamy, about 5 to 10 mins. Add oil salt and flour, mix with a spoon until a lightly firm dough all forms. Use hands to knead the ball until not sticky, add flour if needed. You can use right away or if you want you can let it rise 10 to 20 minutes. Put flour on you counter top and press out by hand until almost the size of your pan. Transfer to baking pan stretching to the correct size. Add sauce and toppings.

    This will make 2 thin crust pizzas or 1 hand tossed/thin pan crust pizza.

    Let sit 5 minutes after coming out of oven, cut and enjoy.

    I’m running into a problem

    I’m on endeavourOS and can’t get the game to run. I downloaded it and installed via GOG but it doesn’t work. When I look in the AUR I can find the game engine and another app for it but I’m not sure if it’s the actual game that I can install and run.

    Can anyone help me with this?

    Last night dinner bacon cheeseburger pie

    This is actually a recipe from bettycrocker.com. However I usually make my own “pie crust” with flour, eggs, baking powder, milk and seasonings. I also use more cheese than the recipe actually calls for.

    Everyone loves this meal. 30 minute comfort food.

    Feature request

    Inn B love the app, been using it since the original beta came out on test flight.

    My feature request is to either mark everything in the inbox as read, or have it automatically moved to the all section in the inbox automatically after reading and closing the inbox to go back to the main feed.

    In the image below, none of these comments need replying to by me from my comment, but to clear them I have to login into Lemmy from my computer to mark them as such.

    Before anyone asks why not use the phone browser, for some reason I can’t login to Lemmy on any of my phones mobile browsers. This has been brought to the attention of Lemmy devs via bug report.

    Please help the community grow by posting

    Hi all, I really appreciate the number of member we have here at linuxscripts, and we have had a few posts besides my own on here.

    What I would really like is for some of you to post things if you have them, and of course let others know about our existence.

    You don’t have to post content to o be a member here, but please help contribute in any manner you can. I am opening the community up to more content today allowing for memes and crossposts of news surrounding Linux. If you cross post please denote that in your post so others know. I do ask that you don’t cross post unsolved help posts unless it is your own. However, if you get a solution to your problem and it’s not on here please let me know so it can be locked.

    Thanks everyone.

    Can’t click on !community@instance.name

    Something I’ve been meaning to post about, it seems in the app you can’t click on !community@instance.name and be taken there.

    For example !linuxscripts@lemmy.zip is not clickable in the app but it is clickable through a regular browser. Is there a way to add this functionality to Memmy?

    Thanks

    a python script for servers

    This is a database script i made to trigger when database events trigger a database lockup.

    ```
    Make sure to change your database info and what instance of DB you are using (i.e. sqlite3, mysql, postgres etc...)
    This script will rotate for a total of 5 logs so you can compare previous errors with current one without taking unnecessary space
    There's no strict requirement to place it in the root directory of the server, but you have some options for where to put it:
    Root Directory: Placing the script in the root directory could work, but it's generally not recommended to clutter the root directory
    with scripts. It's better to create a specific directory for your application and put the script there.
    Custom Directory: Create a specific directory for your application, and place the script there.
    For example, you could create a directory called "my_app" or "database_error_logger" and place the script in that directory.
    Scripts Directory: Some servers have a designated directory for executable scripts.
    You might check if your server has a "scripts" directory where you can place your script.
    Regardless of the location, it's essential to consider file permissions.
    Ensure that the script has the necessary permissions to execute. You may need to use the chmod command to set the appropriate
    permissions, depending on your server's configuration.
    Lastly, consider setting up a virtual environment for your Python script to isolate dependencies and avoid conflicts with other
    applications on the server. This can help ensure that the required Python libraries are installed locally for your script
    without interfering with system-wide packages.
    This script was created by Edward Freeman and is covered under GPL V3. You can modify this script as you need
    However, you must retain this GPL V3 standard, and leave credit where credit is due to the original author.
    import logging from logging.handlers import RotatingFileHandler import sqlite3 #Make sure you change this to the correct Database provider (sqlite3, mysql, postgres etc..) import sys
    Configure logging with rotating file handler
    log_file = 'database_errors.log' log_handler = RotatingFileHandler(log_file, maxBytes=1024 * 1024, backupCount=5) log_formatter = logging.Formatter('%(asctime)s - %(levelname)s: %(message)s') log_handler.setFormatter(log_formatter) logger = logging.getLogger('DatabaseErrorLogger') logger.setLevel(logging.ERROR) logger.addHandler(log_handler)
    def perform_database_operation(): try: # Replace the following line with your actual database connection and query connection = sqlite3.connect('your_database.db') cursor = connection.cursor()
    # Replace the following line with your actual database operation cursor.execute('SELECT * FROM your_table;')
    # Don't forget to commit the changes if you are performing write operations connection.commit()
    connection.close() except Exception as e: # Log the error with the traceback using the logger logger.exception("Error occurred while performing the database operation.") raise # Raising the error again allows the script to terminate or handle it at a higher level if needed
    def custom_exception_handler(exctype, value, traceback): # Log uncaught exceptions using the logger logger.exception("Uncaught exception occurred.", exc_info=(exctype, value, traceback))
    Set the custom exception handler for uncaught exceptions
    sys.excepthook = custom_exception_handler
    Call the function to perform the database operation
    try: perform_database_operation() except Exception as e: print("Error occurred during the database operation:", str(e)) ```
    Thanks for making this community
    I really appreciate this community being here. I do some coding in python, db manipulation, php and html web design. I also dabble in a little bit in custom graphics for the web and apps when needed. I too am running a community on here !linuxscripts@lemmy.zip which is growing, but currently working on some scripts for content. we also do toubleshooting for Linux based servers ( I specified this because I know there are Windows based servers too,) and the Linux desktop. Feel free to drop in and add scripts if you want, make sure to read the community rules if you join. I really look forward to seeing how this community grows.
