  • It was one of his earlier games that used that trick.

  • Linux has many performance benefits over Windows on the count of there being much less bloat and unnecessary garbage included but also SteamOS has the extra benefit of running games and apps independently in gaming mode with little to no background processes, kind of like how games run on a Console. Background apps and the Desktop do chew up resources which won't be used by the games.

  • A lot of apps and most games out there are 32 bit and need 32 bit support, trying to pull an Apple is naturally going to be unpopular and unproductive. This is one of those things about Linux and Linux development which is inherently problematic, which is the seemingly severe aversion to legacy support, despite the fact that Linux is often praised for running on older, less capable hardware, as well as taking better advantage of current gen hardware.

I don't even know why this is even being discussed, it's an awful idea and should never be implemented.

  • It would be cool if there were a custom Lemmy-UI CSS theme that mimicked the Text based look of the BBS terminal interface but still gave the full functionality and allowed you to view images in posts and banners.

  • I used neonmodem once, was kind of buggy but it worked alright for reading text based posts. I wasn't able to login though.

  • I feel like there was involvement with VTC's admin since that was before Lemmy had a Vote-view API for mods and they were helping get vote counts to ban people for downvoting but maybe that wasn't happening and they weren't involved. It's not really valid these days anymore since every instance now has Vote-View enabled for moderators and Lemvotes allows anyone to see votes on any post or comment in Lemmy if they so choose.

  • Maybe it will someday, if they think it'll make cracking harder or that there was something to gain from Windows lock-in they'd do it.

  • If it were up to the publishers they would force us to give them money against our will. They would shun people for choosing not to buy their games the way they shun people for pirating. Thankfully the first one is illegal and the second one is just so asinine and unreasonable that any publisher who did it would lose all respect for it. But that doesn't mean they wouldn't want these things if they could get away with it. These publishers are way more evil and greedy than many of us really give them credit for.

  • Fair reminder everyone, if you wish to find out easily which games have and don't have Denuvo I recommend following the Denuvo Games Curator which will tell you which ones have it and which ones used to have it. It's a great tool for avoiding these games.

  • Agreed, I encourage people to follow the Denuvo Curator to keep track of which ones have it and possibly even ignore the ones that do (hides them from recommendation feeds).

  • Was Hitler even actually a Vegetarian? I feel like I read somewhere that that was a myth and he actually did eat meat fairly often.

  • Yeah I don't really understand people who go there. It seems like a terrible place to be.

  • Too bad you're on lemmy.world and they don't federate with your server. You could DMCA your own comments on their server and claim you don't agree to their TOS. That can sometimes get the host or registrar to take the site down.

(This is legal, you OWN the copyright to the things you write, and your instance TOS only guarantees they have the right to host it, it doesn't guarantee anyone else that right.)

  • I almost forgot about Vegantheoryclub.org I remember controversy about them with !vegan@lemmy.world where one of the mods of that community was also an admin on there or had ties to the admin there and was using it to ban anyone who criticized her or downvoted her. She was posting a ton of reactionary content (some of which was misinformation) and even tried to ban LW admins from the community. They eventually booted her and she tried to use alts to add herself back but ended up getting all of them booted and then used an alt to try and create more drama.

Yeah I strongly recommend people stay away from vegantheoryclub, they're not a good instance. Their admin clearly has problems.

  • Can it copy the existing database structure? Like could an instance migrate and have users just login to the piefed instance as if nothing had changed? If not point remains. Migrating software later in the life cycle of the platform is a destructive process, and one done with very little purpose considering the nature of open-source software.

  • Unless Piefed gets a database import ability to port Existing Lemmy databases to that I don't think Switching to it would be such a great idea. It would mean starting our instance from scratch and losing everything we have content, user registrations, communities. If Sublinks hadn't stalled it could be a promising alternative, and maybe will be in the future, since it's built around that whole concept of database and API compatibility.

  • This is really shitty but it doesn't surprise me at all. He's trying to make a shift because he doesn't want to face repercussions of being labeled transphobic, possibly being widely banned and ostracized.

It's very different when someone actually realizes they were wrong and want to change and be better. Nutomic isn't doing that here, he just wants people to give donations and to avoid fallout from him letting his opinions slip publicly.

  • He's an enlightened ""centrist"". I'm very familiar with these types.
