Switched it to the bottom only to find out it didn't matter one bit and was still just as hard to reach there as it was at the top. Moved it back to the top because that's where my brain looks for it.

The Back to the Future trilogy. It'd only be a slight exaggeration to say I've watched those movies hundreds of times.

I got it as a gift so I don't know what it's called to search for it. It looked like a giant macaron so that's how I referred to it.

There was at least one unnamed, previously unseen red shirt on the bridge as well. That was a hint there was going to be a body count. Of course, it could also mean that no one dies and the production staff are just playing into our expectations.

Someone posted earlier this week that it looked like Captain Batel was having a really bad day, and yup, she definitely was. My heart sank when she revealed the Gorn egg infestation. My money's on her being the sole "main" character casualty from the events of this episode.

I didn't know Scotty was going to show up so that was a total surprise. Finding out he was Pelia's perfect student who somehow flunked made all the sense in the world, ignoring the obvious small universe complaints.

I LOVED all the effects shots of the Cuyuga's debris field. I initially thought crashing the remains of the saucer section into the Gorn jammer was complete overkill, like throwing a dinner plate at a toothpick, but then realized the jammer must have been absolutely massive and far away from the settlement. It looked like it was relatively nearby upon initial viewing which didn't appear to be the case considering the explosion from when the saucer section hit it.

That cliffhanger, wow. I pray that they have the second half already written and aren't going to do like TNG and wait to write the conclusion. It was mentioned in the TNG Companion that the writers only wrote the first part of their season ending cliffhangers and waited until closer to filming to write and finalize the second part which doesn't seem like the best way to develop a strong resolution.

I love SNW so much. It's going to be an agonizing wait until the new season, probably 2025 at this point? Argh.

I'm half her age and I don't recover from falls and injuries anywhere near as quickly as I did in my younger days. I can barely wrap my brain around how frail a 90 year old must be.

Great point about making sure places are actually open when you want to go. I think I've taken it for granted that a large majority of the places and things I typically want to see have regular-ish business hours or are open 24/7 (e.g., something in a park or other public space).

This is AWESOME advice. I have no problem hitting up tourist spots but they can be a bit much (and sometimes hugely overrated). I try to balance those out with just living in the city eating and drinking away from all the popular spots too.

If the place you're visiting has good public transit, I've also found that I strangely enjoy riding trains and buses to random places. It's a good way to immerse yourself and get off the beaten path.

I've traveled to many corners of the planet and have a different take than most. Many people try to min/max their trip, filling up every minute of every day which doesn't appeal to me at all. I prefer a laid back, impromptu schedule to give myself time to see and do stuff I didn't plan and time to breathe and enjoy being in a new place. To me, the worst thing you can do is overplan and overschedule so you're stressed out if something happens to screw up your tight schedule.

As for selecting what to do, I usually do tons of internet and book research finding things that sound interesting. I add everything to a list and to Google Maps as saved points and then try to cluster them into days, making sure I'm not packing in too much as noted above. I'm not especially concerned if I don't get to everything--if I really enjoyed a place, odds are I'll return and put focus on different experiences.

I can't believe I read that whole thing. I take that back, I can't believe Reddit actually thought this was a good idea and put it out into the world.

Even though I was on Reddit for 9 years, I never frequented r/startrek until this year and saw the mod posts about starting a fresh Lemmy instance. Being a member of the Federation in the Fediverse just really appealed to my geek brain.

I love the Enterprise-D so much I paid through the nose to get an Eaglemoss model of it for my work desk. I'm new to that whole side of collectibles and good lord, you can drop some serious coin on those.
