  • I could present him with multiple options at once, but since he only gets wet food, this would involve a lot of waste.

There's also the added problem of changing taste. Depending on my mood, I prefer different food on different days. Until proven otherwise, I just assume the same for him, which is why I would ideally have everything in stock and he could choose every day.

Maybe I should get more cats, give them multiple options and see who goes for what. Ideally, everything gets eaten and I learn more about their preferences.

  • That's a really hard question, actually. A few characters come to mind, but it's entirely possible I'm blanking on my actual favorite.

Luke fon Fabre (Tales of the Abyss) has one of the best character arcs, I think. He starts out quite low and can have a lot of growth because of that, there's also just so much stuff happening to him.
\ Axel (Kingdom Hearts 365/2 days) is somewhat similar. I really like characters who struggle to find themselves.

Ichiban Kasuga (Like a Dragon) definitely makes the top cut. Although his writing did get worse with Infinite Wealth, sadly. The overall writing for him and the story in his first appearance are almost flawless, I'd say.

Rex (Xenoblade Series) gets the meme nomination. I actually really like him, but some of it came down to how memeable he his. Naturally, I had a field day with his adult appearance later on.
\ Both Jin and Noah would be other solid picks from the series.

Kefka Palazzo (Final Fantasy VI) gets the nomination for the best antagonist. There's nothing I don't love about him.

  • I've played them all! Although, I haven't finished all of them. I'm planning on fixing that with the FFT remaster, however, I had to drop the original release.

Personally, it goes FFTA > FFTA2 > FFT. I don't think I've ever met someone who likes FFTA2 the most.

  • Usually, whenever people talk about A, you get a few of the following arguments:

    • The story is bad/too childish
    • Laws/Judges are overall a terrible mechanic
    • Learning skills from equipment is bad
    • SRPGs need permadeath
    • Send missions are bad and just there to promote the game with having 300 missions

Of course, I disagree with all of these. Actually, these are some of my favorite things about this game.

  • Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

People only ever talk about Final Fantasy Tactics and dismiss any of the other games. However, going by the original release, Tactics Advance is by far my favorite. It's my favorite GBA game and at least in my Top 25 JRPGs, despite having played almost nothing else for the past 20 years. I like many of the things the game gets criticized for.

  • You're missing many of the most iconic games on PC, namely stuff like League of Legends, DOTA, WoW, Overwatch, Runescape... Kerrigan is the only one you've included that kinda fits this group.

Now, to be honest, I haven't touched most of these games myself, so I can't tell you their mascots. But at least the MOBAs are bound to have one.

  • Got sucked into Xenoblade X, it's from one of my favorite ongoing series after all. Finished the first 4 chapters and did a lot of exploration until my vacation ended and will continue this weekend.

I could probably blitz through some more chapters if I wanted to. I'm Lv 24 and did a good chunk of the map activies already. Got about 30% of Primordia and a bit of the others.

I've already played the original version and am really curious about the additinal content, but it's also been nice to test the online features. They were long gone when I played the WiiU one.

  • I'm still unsure whether or not I'll give this game a shot. D6 was that much of a disappointment. And while the automation has been dialed back significantly, it's still there.

Instead of automating the grind like a mobile game, they could just make the grind more fun. Or you know, change nothing since the endgame grind is optional anyways. Automation however ruined the entire game in D6.

Oh, and the 3D models in D6 were a massive downgrade to D5 sprites. Worse performance and worse visuals, all for the grand benefit of doing nothing with the extra dimension. However, at least with the Kaiju feature they kind of use the models in D7.

  • Played Mario RPG Remake this week. It's quite short and I was on vacation, so I finished the entire thing. It's fun, although the post game bosses did get annoying and I didn't beat all of them - maybe I'll finish them over the weekend.

Besides that, I'll join in on the fun and start Xenoblade X.

Oh, and I started a replay of Monster Hunter Rise with my partner. This time around, for every mission, we roll a random weapon each we have to beat it with, which is quite fun. After playing about 200h using the hammer exclusively, it's nice to slowly learn all the other weapons too.

  • I loved FFTA, but I just couldn't get into FFT. Mainly because every other mission was to protect someone who half the time killed himself before I even got a turn - I stopped at the gunslinger, who got killed by some black mages about 30 times in a row.

Other highlights include my whole squad being flooded by chocobos breeding like rabbits and throwing stones being pretty much the only viable skill for a good chunk of early maps.

Hopefully, the 'enhanced gameplay' fixes problems like these. I'd love to give it a proper shot.

  • Yes, it is okay for teenagers to watch porn. Pretty much everyone did, at least everyone I know. None of these people have any problems because of it. There certainly are people with unhealthy relationships to porn, but the same can be said about basically all things. You wouldn't ban video games because gaming addicts exist, would you?

A ban such as this only makes sense for things without any upside, like gambling. But exploring your own sexuality is a natural and healthy thing to do. Porn is an easy way to do that.

  • Funnily enough, while our takeaways about MP are similar, we come from different ends of the spectrum.

I think limiting MP as much as possible is integral to a great dungeon, because now every encounter is something to think about. How much MP do you spend? Is the EXP worth the investment? How much damage should you take - how much healing do you still have? And some more. The answer to the question "How can I survive this encounter with the minimal amount of resources?" will shift with your gear, level and resources. Dungeons are all about resource management.

If they are not, they become boring. Every encounter will be the same, and you just use the same moves, which are usually your strongest ones. The answer to "How can I defeat this encounter as fast as possible?" will be the same each time. Especially with Press Turn as implemented in Persona games. You start every fight with advantage and kill everything in the first turn, nothing short of a boss would ever hit you if you're not forced to use weaker moves or even rely on auto-attacks for some things to preserve MP. Also, without a limiting resource, endless grinding within a dungeon becomes an option, and I don't think it should be.

Sadly, outside some Persona games and Etrian Odyssey, a proper dungeon seems to be a lost art. Older Pokémon games kind of went for that sometimes, but with healing around every corner and before every major fight, there isn't much left there either.

  • huSo, I just finished Metaphor today. My opinion remaind mostly the same as I already stated last month, I think:

Next up is either Mario RPG, Octopath 2, Xenoblade X or Baten Kaitos. I'll decide on that tomorrow, I think.
