  • I feel like the unloved sect is really the unitarian universalists. They're basically a doctrine free "church" of social justice. Like, I love going sometimes and just getting more advice on how to be an excellent human to others. And then we have snacks.

  • I'll also add that I hated the average hours of use thing cause whenever I would mail them in to get repaired it seemed like that time was being counted as well, so Id go in and get told I'm averaging something like 5 hours a day when I'm wearing them more like 16-18 hours a day.

  • This. A good audiologist will usually start the gain pretty low, like 30% otherwise it overwhelms your brain in a way that's hard to describe but will mean you don't like it. After a few months you can have the gain turned up.

But if you can't get the settings tweaked you can just turn volume down as soon as they are turned on.

  • Yo, compensation doesn't matter.

    Outcome per dollar matters.

Hiring people at starvation wages may work, or hiring more expensive cream of the crop may work. What I care about when I'm donating is "did my dollars accomplish what I wanted?" And "could my dollars have done more for the cause elsewhere?"

If people are making the world better and have nice office furniture I don't really begrudge them that.

  • Dull Men's Club @lemmy.world

It's raining and the gutters are clogged again. After 5 days.

  • I like to imagine this guy in the one room in his house where he won't wake anyone up sitting on the only available floorspace recording this lovely little bit of mashup. Makes me happy.

  • Yes. Easy patch.

I mean, public transport is a fucking ton of money to start up, and anywhere outside an urban center it is not just a loss but almost a total loss due to distances.

I remember being in a meeting in grad school to discuss the school bus system as part of the student review of finances. We had a bus route that went to another town a good distance away, and it was nearly always empty or with like 2 people on it, so they basically said once the grant money is gone we will shut down this route. We can't afford to put good money into something expensive and isn't getting used.

I realize there is a lot about car culture feeding that, but it remains a massive obstacle. Switching from existing structures like parking etc to public transport? How? How fast? What do we do with that space? Who pays for it? I'm frustrated by the system but we can't just start from a blank slate, we have to work with it.

  • I get that, and I'm kinda trying to see how to best use my limited time in the mornings for workouts. I can't lift weights anymore due to joint issues, so I'm trying to keep the sexy legs I earned!

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

How do you solo train on stationary bike?
