  • Whenever I point out the hateful rhetoric, the advocacy for violence or murder, the attacks on anyone trying to make sense of things in a calm and measured way, or the lies spread about the other side (yes, the left does this too), people are quick to respond with whataboutism - pointing out how the right does it too, and supposedly much worse.

Sure, maybe they do. But I don’t spend time in right-wing spaces where I have to deal with it. I’m here on Lemmy, which I’ve been told is supposed to be far better than other social media platforms. I don’t give a damn what it’s like in my neighbor’s house - I don’t live there. I care about what it’s like at home, and right now, it fucking blows.

  • I don't disagree about anything you just said about Trump.

I will continue to use the term wokesim because it describes a real phenomenom in the world. If you want to paint a false picture of my beliefs to yourself because the use of said word then you're free to do so, but just understand that we probably mostly agree on the vast majority of these issues. However, telling me it's hard to believe I'm centrist is exactly the issue I'm talking about here. That is what makes people like me go 'fuck it then' and vote for the other party.

Do you want trans people to apologize for existing?

Yes absolutely. That perfectly describes my attitude towards trans people. When people like me who are fed up with identity politics complain about it we secretly just mean fuck gay and trans people. Good catch.

  • It wasn't enabled in Crimea in the first place. The author misspoke/lied about in the book and has later admitted it.

U.S. sanctions to Russia forbid the use of Starlink. This includes crimea and the occupied territories. That's why it wasn't enabled.

To clarify on the Starlink issue: the Ukrainians THOUGHT coverage was enabled all the way to Crimea, but it was not. They asked Musk to enable it for their drone sub attack on the Russian fleet. Musk did not enable it, because he thought, probably correctly, that would cause a major war.

And before someone points out the 'cause major war' things, those are Walters words, not Elon's. Musk said "It would make SpaceX explicitly complicit in a marjor act of war and conflict escalation" He later also added that had he been contacted by the US officials and asked to enable it he would, but they didn't.

  • I doubt it's a real thing that has a name. I tried asking chatGPT about it and it said it's called melodic masking / auditory masking but I didn't really find any information that matches my experience.

It's not that I don't hear the vocals, I just struggle to register it as language. It just sounds more like yet another instrument.

  • I like fast food. A steakhouse hamburger from Burger King is just as good, if not better than most hamburgers I've gotten from restaurants. On top of this I don't need to wait 30 minutes to get it, I don't need to deal with waiters and I can just leave when I'm done rather than wait for someone to bring a a check.

  • it’s hard to find a good trait about the guy

He's not a warmonger for one. He's pretty funny too.

EDIT: Also, though a bit synical, I must say that I find some enjoyment in how mad he makes the far left which I see as one of the main reasons we got Trump to begin with. He's the reaction to wokeism and identity politics.

  • This implies that U.S. stopping weapons deliveries would leave them without weapons and ammunation which is not the case. It would make things a lot harder for Ukraine and make them lose more soldiers and land but it wouldn't stop the war. They'd rather die than submit to Russia. Also, U.S. is not their only weapons supplier.
