Starve your kid or lose them. That's quite a choice for a poor parent to make.
My late father grew up in an orphanage because my grandfather was too poor to care for 5 kids and a sick wife. My grandparents were able to take the kids home on Sundays though, so it wasn't a situation where they yielded full custody. I'm not saying an orphanage was ideal, but it's a shame that these days there is not the same kind of middle ground where kids can be cared for but still stay connected to their family. I guess that is too much of a social safety net for conservatives to tolerate.
Sorry, but it's absurd to claim all socialists voted for one candidate. The KDP was a minor party in the Weimar period after the failed Spartacist uprising, getting only about 10% of the vote. Many socialists, especially war veterans, were social Democrats who were anti-communist (anti-Bolshevik really). They flocked to Hitlers nationalist, anti-banker (aka Jew), pro-veteran rhetoric. Once Hitler had gained power, he no longer needed the socialist elements of the party and purged them to make way for his authorization takeover.
(Note that I am absolutely not anti-socialist. Quite the opposite really. I just recognize that people are fallible and socialists have fucked up in the part too)
Normally I would never say a woman slept her way to the top, but this is Trump we are talking about. None of these people legitimately earned their cabinet positions.
Not really. The National Socialist Party drew in strong socialist support with its talk of uniting the workers and a strong social support system. The fascists used the socialist's votes to gain power and then betrayed them on the Night of Long Knives. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Long_Knives
This is factually untrue if you learn history. The only times fascism was defeated is when capitalists, socialists, anarchists, liberals, leftists, etc join together against fascism.
We could debate this all day, but it is irrelevant to the question of democracy. If we want democracy, everyone must band together to fight fascism. Fascism kills democracy.
True, but most if not all of those positions need congressional approval of the next person holding the position. It doesn't transfer automatically. The approval process can drag on for months. I think one or two are still "acting" secretaries under Trump.
I was curious how far down the line of succession you would have to go to find someone who would not be a catastrophically bad president. 11 positions down is the Secretary of Labor, Lori Chavez-DeRemer. She's a Hispanic woman who was one of 6 Republican house members who signed a pledge to respect the results of the 2024 election, the only Republican cosponsor of a pro- union bill, and opposes a national Bank on abortion or IVF. Far from Ideal but light years better than the rest of the fascists on the list
I once saw a local Zillow listing with a very graphic gay bdsm shower curtain. So you can buy that somewhere, but that's a Google search I am not about to make for you.
I would argue that fascism is an inherent weakness of democracy that must be constantly guarded against. The public will always be vulnerable to those who would manipulate their worst impulses. Hate, fear, vengeance.
All who wish to preserve democracy need to band together. Anything else is secondary.
CGI filled brainless action with demons and gargoyles fighting a secret war. Aaron Eckhart as Frankenstein is stuck in the middle. The whole thing tries to copy the vibe of Underworld and mostly fails. Somehow I still love watching it. It's just the right kind of bad for me.
Liberals will work with whoever gives them the best chance to retain power. That could be socialists or fascists. By refusing to work with them, you leave the fascists as their only option to retain power. You create the exact environment fascism wants - a divided left.
I would bet she was passed over for the promotion because of her attitude, because you have to be an awful person to sue for this.
