  • Relationships like this are way too common in film. People hire their partner, brother, 3 kids and their kids partner, and they all roam the sets like a grade 5 gang. Our employment papers often have clear direction that we can't have these relationships, but I've never known anyone to put a stop to it until complaints like these come out, then usually it's fire everyone, and the ones who still have family in the industry find another job and the ones that don't can get fucked.

As an occasional team lead in Film, with a partner who is a team lead in the same job, I refuse to bring him to work with my team, not because he isn't good (he is great at his job, well liked and maybe a better fit for the position than me) but because even though we would both behave, the perception would be enough to sour relationships and create difficult working environments.

I wish our union would take a more active roll in these matters. I understand they aren't their to police us, that's what the companies are supposed to do, but it's easier for the companies to ignore the problem, and having the union crack down on this would create a more professional pool of talent, while not alienating anyone who wasn't born into or married into the industry.

  • Fluff!

  • Today I almost stepped on a batch of tiny baby grouse chicks. They must have hatched like 2 days ago they were so small and as they fled in terror of my Godzilla body they were barely staying on their feet just tumbling away frantically as mom called and hissed at me.

It took everything I had not to take a step and snatch up one of the slower ones. Such good camo too once they stopped peeping and running/rolling I couldn't see any of them. Had to tip toe out of there for fear I'd step on one.

    Best day.

  • Thank you. I have a great job, with people I enjoy working with. It's relatively safe, pays well, and I get to do interesting and different things almost every day.

But I leave the house at 6am and don't get back until 5pm, and that's just because my commute right now is super short. I'm physically exhausted to the point that walking across the street from where I park my car to my porch is embarrassing, as I've worked all day and then sat stone still for 30 minutes. I hobble like a 90 year old woman.

If my job was 3 days a week at 10 hours, I think I'd be pretty happy. But my job doesn't work like that, and if it did then I'd be broke.

  • They are doing this to make access more difficult.

With transcripts you can alt-F and search for key words, then read or watch the video for specific information.

With videos only you have to A) invest the time to watch that human stroke babble on incoherently and try and hear key words, so you can then rewind a bit and relisten to the relevant parts or b) have a software make a transcript for you.

And fuck deaf people I guess.

  • Another example of AI putting real humans out of work. Up until recently I used to to get paid good money to ride my bike in loops past survey cameras while wearing different hats. Now, my phone never rings and I've had to slowly sell off my collection to make rent. Even if I do get another job offer, I'm down to like 7 hats, most clients I deal with expect twice that many hats for the money they spend.

  • I have been worried about this for months. The moment of clarity for me came when I was looking up how to tan a hide fur off. I have done fur on and seen a dozen videos on it so I knew what I was looking at. Found this great looking site. Step by step. As I'm reading, something seems off. Maybe translation issues? The order here seems... Repeatative?

Then I look at the pictures.

First picture showed a hide being made into a drum. Ok, not exactly what I'm doing but yeah maybe similar process.... Next picture is of a dudes abs, with a tan line.... (Tanning the hide)

Next picture is a head table for a wedding... (Decorating)

It was surreal. And it is surreal. We are now returning to a time when we can't access information easily. Not because it isn't there, but because it's crowded by misinformation and half information.

  • Yeah you are wrong. And your long lecture seems to miss the point.

Of course shit was aweful then. The woman took care of herself, because the cops, and society in general didn't give a fuck then and barely do now.

I wasn't even pointing fingers at those cops back then, I was pointing out the absurdity of the current detective/investigator/whatever he is when he so flippantly dismissed the whole ordeal as....

"I think she just was removed and, you know, moved on from things and kind of did her own thing and led her life … She sounded happy. Confident in her decision, no regrets,” Hanson added."

    How fairytale.
