Certain important people need to keep selling spyware, drugs, guns and war to keep themselves and their associates employed. As for whether the funds or the actual work (conflict) available is sustainable is for everyone including the accountants to consider.

The other problem is that war doesn't really die, we just displace where we choose to fight, and how, if we imagine physical and cyber world peace for a moment, for the USA or China to reduce its military capacity by one third, or one tenth, we would see absolute chaos, thousands unemployed, the losses in maintenance and equipment, military supplies, medical, etc, nobody would win.

Any complex society where financial and other systems operate needs a minimum degree of social enforcement to maintain. Whether that can change like a function or is something that depends on a country's GDP is another issue.

Just consider that humanity would either need lots of free time, energy and money or it would literally need to feel incredibly threatened by something on earth, which we all could not fight to control in order to actually fund going to space or even the moon, and I doubt a triple whammy of pandemic, food shortage or severe draught and floods could do it, it happened in the Bible and people literally just found more dumb reasons to do more dumb things, and no lowering mens testosterone or telling guys to shave more often wouldn't do shit either. If people don't find reasons to explore or learn, they find reasons to fight/play fight, it's pretty normal, and if anyone remembers their childhood, usually it's pretty much the same across generations.

You're right that a state can commit terrorism just like a group can, but the key issue here is whether the state works towards being held accountable and towards achieving a long term benefit for all its benefactors, investors, assets and the society it's providing for

You would think with the further advancement of humanity, with or without technology we would have more reason to cache and archive things out there whether it's by the written word of paper, the internet or via our phone cameras.

True I think there was a big gap somewhere in the years between when o.g. 2.5d retro shooters like Doom, Blood, and Hexen players got used to moving with mouse look, and the people who played shooters like Quake, UT and counterstrike back in 2000-2005 where we aimed with the mouse and strafe run with the left and right keyboard buttons.

A few other hidden gems back in the day that I never got around to playing until years later after their prime time was probably Descent, System Shock and also AvP.

No Quake was a real level up from Doom, at least graphics wise.

Though I actually preferred the sprite graphics for smaller monsters, what I reckon would have been cool is if we could have a retro reboot of Doom 2 but with Quake style 3d monsters for mini bosses, and a whole Hexen remix/mashup but with UT style grenades and low gravity jumps and stuff

Hey man, just look at China, the much darker truth is that in many parts of the world, senile old men run things, your freedom, dreams and purpose is largely meaningless to them unless they're very close to you or you've shown that you also care about their freedom and the well-being of their future offspring.

For a lot of older people, a certain cynicism comes with wisdom, and you're just like everyone else, a cog in the wheels of a big system. For America and China, where in many parts it's essentially still a mafia state, this is even more pronounced for people that come into positions of power at an older age as they're even more experienced at the real life equivalent to GTA politics.

The only real upside is that it's not as bad as the middle east still but hey that's a low bar for most that consider war and civil society to be two separate states of existence
