  • Yeah, I think that's another huge factor that made the Switch so successful! It was priced at a point that households had multiple units and multiple copies of games like Kart and Smash. Only people doing really well are going to be able to swing that at these prices.

  • Hopefully this system isn't the smashing success that the first Switch was and it humbles them a bit. Beyond the price gouging, the novelty of the concept has worn some and this system really doesn't do anything all that exciting beyond improved visuals (which doesn't excite me as somebody who already has a good PC).

I'm a really huge Nintendo fan who has owned every one of their systems besides the Virtual Boy and bought most of those at launch. I was almost certainly going to purchase a Switch 2 as soon as I could... yet yesterday's lackluster software reveals followed up by the outrageous pricing has me saying the scalpers can have this one and Nintendo can go to hell.

It's likely that you're right and people are going to line up to reward them for this and it will lead to price increases across the entire industry unfortunately.

  • Yeah, the company has gone full greed mode since Iwata's passing. I know the point of a business is to make money and all that but he at least kept things fair for the consumer.

  • I'd be completely flabbergasted by anybody who wastes their money on that "game."

Satoru Iwata is rolling in his grave.

  • I'm just going to get the Switch version and be perfectly happy with the visuals being slightly less good and using gyro joycon aim over joycon mouse.

  • Kind of weird to focus on something like an emulated GameCube version of Wind Waker when they already released a more definitive HD version.

  • This should like... just not be a rule though. Why can't we wish for violence against evil people? Who is coming after the Lemmy instances if users wish for violence against evil people? It's not like we're actively organizing simply by saying we like imagining healthcare CEOs having their brains removed via bullet. And boy how do I!

  • That is true. Regardless, I'm not paying $90 for video games when we're in such hard times in my country. Steam sales and fit-girl is how I'm rolling into the foreseeable future.

I'm a patient person who doesn't need a game at launch and will wait a year to get it at a good price. What stings with Nintendo is that they don't lower game prices even years later though. Looks like I'll be waiting quite some time before I play the next Mario and Zelda adventures. Unfortunate but I'll live.

  • Been a Nintendo fan since the NES, bordering on obsession when I was a teenager and young adult. They’ve always made my favorite games. Looks like their new leadership has really shown its colors today though. The fucking hubris. I will not be paying these prices. $90 physical games? Iwata made sure games were $10 cheaper than the more powerful competitors, not $20 more expensive.

Burn in hell, Nintendo. I hope hackers work really hard to crack this system so I can steal your games. Otherwise I’ll emulate them sometime down the line.

  • Yeah, there was a bit too much "at an additional price" and "with a Nintendo Switch Online Plus account" for my liking. I get to what? Play a few GameCube games I can already play on my Steam Deck?

I'm sure they will eventually have enough games to entice me as I'm a big fan of Nintendo games since the 80's, but it's looking like I'll be okay waiting for now.

  • Yikes. I think I’m going to pass for now at that price. Honestly the only game that interested me in that entire showcase was the Donkey Kong platformer where you go around smashing the fuck out of shit, but I’m not about to drop half a grand to play it.

I feel even less excited about the idea of buying this system than I did the Wii U. The scalpers can have at this one. I’ll consider it down the line when there’s more software that looks worthwhile.

  • Agreed entirely. A show should last only as long as it takes to tell its story. 2-3 seasons is fine. Hell, even limited one season shows are great.

  • Then may the true assassin do some more good work out there and clear his name...

  • Works for me. I'm over wasting my time on platforms where I'm not allowed to praise the great man Luigi for his wonderful deeds and wish for more like them. Because that's how I honestly feel and I won't apologize for it! I can't hide who I am anymore.

Edit: whoops. Wrong thread but same idea. Hah.

  • Yeah, I was very annoyed by it. Such a long movie could have at least lead up to a satisfying ending... not everything resolved, sure, but at least a conclusion.

  • An espresso martini is only a martini in the sense that it’s served in the same glass. Haha. Definitely a dessert drink.

  • Saint Luigi had an answer for that question. He taught that the answer could be found within!

  • I’m sure he was aware it was a likely outcome yet he died for our sins anyways. Great man. May he inspire all of us.

  • I guarantee as that piece of shit bled out on the sidewalk, the words "why me?" didn't cross his minds. He knew what he did to deserve it. He did deserve it, as do countless other greedy mother fuckers who are ruining the world for personal gain.
