  • In a different part of the world, about 90 years ago, dealing with undesirable people started with prototyping the framework on the weakest individuals.

People with mental disabilities would be shipped to the other end of the country, and there be gassed. Those gassings were in some cases proof of concept for the use of various gasses later on.

I do see the similarities. But I don't believe that the US administration is actively exterminating immigrants. But "at least they're not genocidal" is a pretty low fucking bar to clear. And I'm not sure that we've seen it all yet.

If I was living in the US, I'd get out ASAP. I mean sell my house, even at loss, and GTFO. If being latino with a knuckle tattoo will get you shipped to an El Salvadorian torture prison, what will happen when you post a comment about Trumpaloompa?

  • The mistake in this assumption is you actually have a choice in the matter.

If all you care about is currency flow, ie trade balance, then choice doesn't matter.

The UK lowering their tarrifs on the US, while the US raises their tarrifs on the UK, may seem like a sweet deal for the UK consumer. But if your only metric is the trade balance it's actually to the advantage of the US.

  • She has the most iconic line from my youth.

Some soldier, saying to Vasquez who's doing pull-ups: hey Vasquez, you ever been mistaken for a man To which she replies: no, have you?

Also the way ::: spoiler she dies is bad ass. :::

I mean next to Ripley, the android and the little girl, she's the most memorable character in that movie.

  • When I was a kid my dad didn't properly tie down a lounge chair on the trailer. Although we didn't lose the chair avoiding a Houthi attack, we did have to go back and pick it up on the highway.

So I can totally relate /s

  • There's at least two things electricians, mechanics, engineers, and blacksmiths have in common:

    1. They have their own hammers.
    2. They do not, I repeat not, appreciate getting hit with their hammers.
  • Have you yourself heard or seen Dave Chappelle say or do something transphobic? AFAIR Dave Chappelle pissed off one trans person, and got labeled as transphobic. He may not be an active trans allied, but IIRC he actually has trans people in his friends groups who haven't disavowed him.

Don't get me wrong, if someone's actually transphobic, they should totally get called out for it. But if the term is to keep its meaning, we shouldn't throw it around.

  • How did you arrive at a 1300B MTU for your openvpn server?

1460B is the MSS for TCP over IPv4 over Ethernet (which has a standard MTU of 1518B) but I can't figure out the 1300B.

Maybe AirVPN is fragmenting your packets to fit the 1300B, and when the AirVPN server doesn't bother you get the message too error. Maybe a limitation on individual servers, which is why it sometimes works.

  • I did wonder why my client put the word "spoiler" twice, but I already had the picture block and I didn't want to accidentally put boobs in the comment section, so I just rolled with it.

    Good to know, thx

  • First off, instead of using bullets and then manually enumerating then, try putting "1. " at the the start of every item in the list. Don't increment the "1".

Around me the only homes without 3phases are older small apartments. Most houses have a 35A 3phase supply, although 63A may become the norm on account of EVs. It's quite normal to have a 3 phased fuse where each phase is used for something different. Say a fuse box is used for lighting and outlets, but L1 is ground floor, L2 is upstairs and L3 is outdoors.

BTW if you ever move into a house where someone has put outdoors on the same rcd as the rest of the house, then do yourself a favor and get a separate combo rcd/fuse for outdoors. When the rcd trips, it's always the outdoor usage, and it sucks when all the lights go out, because a gasket died in an outdoor lamp.
