Agreed. I really liked War Pigs and A Change Is Gonna Come.
I obviously disagree about this one sucking, but all 3 of those are amazing.
One place this one differs from a lot of other great Tiny Desks is that he sounds very different from his songs, where the others may sound stripped down, but the sing isn't really changed that much. His style relies so much on production effects, it makes sense he can't simulate that in the NPR studio.
That said, I personally think he still sounds great. It just changes up how he hasto perform a lot. I think I get where you are coming from though.
Agreed, I use them when I'm doing chores around the house if my wife isn't doing stuff in the same room as me. Sound quality obviously isn't superb but it is good enough for me and way better than I would expect.
Health is actually half the reason I started running. I've lost ~50lbs over a couple years and want to lose more.
And I want to agree on SLOW. When I first started I did C25K and I was running my little 1 minute increments at like a 15 minute mile pace, then walking in between increments. But eventually I got to where I could run that 15 minute mile pace for 30 minutes at a time, and then I started working on speed. I'm down to almost being able to run a 10K in 35 minutes in a hilly environment, or being able to run for ~45 minutes at a slower pace. I tried many times in my 20s to start running and I always got discouraged because I'd try C25K, but do the running parts at a ~9 minute mile pace and it was killing me. Realizing I needed to start slow got me where I wanted to be.
I've actually been looking at Altra's at the suggestion of a Youtuber I like. I should probably just bite the bullet and grab them. I have a super wide toebox and a normal width heel, so shoes are always weird for me. Up until now I've just stuck with New Balance, I just have to order them online because a 13 4E is hard to find in store
I'm at my kids soccer practice and am about half way through his first album since you posted this. It is different, I like it. They are wrapping up but I'm looking forward to finishing this before bed and checking out more tomorrow. Favorite songs so far are Lucky and Visions. Thanks for the suggestion!
EDIT: Bad Love Poem is great. New fav off this album so far.
EDIT 2: Finished it this morning. NGL, the album sort of went off the rails for me in the last 1/3 or so (except Roaches). Still overall dope and I'm looking forward to listening to more of his stuff when I have some less busy time at work in a few days.
I remember my friends and I doing this in 2008. This really is super old
Running. Not as expensive as a lot of the things posted about here, but my shoes cost ~$150 and I have replaced them a couple times a year. I'm planning to get in to trail running soon (as opposed to running circles in my neighborhood, so now I want to add a running vest and a GPS watch, which is not cheap.
Considering that in theory all you need to run is your body and an open space, I feel like I have spent a lot of money.
EDIT: I forgot the ~$140 bone conducting headphones I bought! I for sure feel safer with them than my old headphones though, since I have been doing almost all of my running till now on the road.
As somebody in a conservative county with kids in school, that is the point to them. They frame it as "parent's rights" but the purpose is to try to out closeted Trans kids to their parents so the parents will "fix it". To them it is all upside. The kids with supportive parents? They consider them a lost cause anyways. The kids with unsupportive parents they hope they can "fix", or at least force them to hide it.
Very much true. Dude has been kind of off the rails since at least like...2004? It is a shame when somebody who is legend and pioneer in something turns out to have some pretty gross thoughts/opinions.
I enjoyed doing it. My favorite part of my actual real job is parsing survey results in to reports for my boss, despite the fact that it is the tiniest part of my job imaginable.
If we grow a little, I'll probably do another one of these every year to try to see how we change over time. Could be fun to look back on.
I love Ed Sheeran, both for his obvious enjoyment of Hip Hop and also for his general music. A lot of time when pop artists do music with Hip Hop artists it feels very much like they are just trying to extend their appeal and get more radio play/streams. With Ed I think his honest enjoyment of Hip Hop is obvious. Partly because he has released his own, solo, borderline Hip Hop tracks (You Need Me, Eraser). But also because he has does collabs with rappers and grime artists on tracks which do not seem to really be going for radio play (Eminem - Those Kinda Nights, Radio feat JME)
Anybody who likes Ed Sheeran and Hip Hop should really check out No.5 Collaborations Project. It is an EP he released in 2011, prior to signing to his label and his first album release. It features grime artists such as Wiley, P Money, JME and Ghetts. It really is worth the listen.
Also, Macklemore gets called corny a lot (and he kinda is), but dude can rap his ass off and has a bunch of less pop stuff from before he blew up. Hell, even The Heist, the album which blew him up and got him his current reputation due to Thrift Ship, had some good-ass rap on it, including Jimmy Iovine feat Ab-Soul as a personal favorite of mine. I really recommend The Language of My World for anybody who hasn't heard it. It is 20 tracks and Macklemore really goes off on some of these tracks. Specifically B-Boy goes hard as hell.
This is dope. Very old school sound, despite coming out in the late 90s. Loving the Price is Right sample.
Man I love Asaf Avidan. Something about his voice makes me feel everything he sings
Permanently Deleted
No shame. Today was the day you learned something new! We all had to learn it for the first time at some point
Dude is the Boom-Bap Pokemon master. He collected them all for this album.
Haven't listened to it all but Metroplois is great. Slick Rick always sounds so smooth.
Never heard this one before, this is dope. Eminem had a lot of good diss tracks around the time period . Can I Bitch, Hailie's Revenge, Bully, Nail In The Coffin, all sick. I know I missed some too. There was like a 6 year period where Eminem released a ton of excellent diss tracks
I made threads regarding both of these earlier in the week, but I have to re-recommend Teddy by Kxng Crooked and the EP Not Your Hero 4 Hire by Ben Reilly.
Unrelated, locket by AUDREY NUNA kind of pops. Only the music video version is on Youtube and that adds some extra shit so I linked Spotify.
MyOwnPersonalHell by Bones gets me feeling some type of way too, despite the fact that I'm pretty sure my old ass is not the target audience. Angst-ridden, teenage me would have loved this.
I think like anything, it is up to the parents to educate their children. I don't blame the record labels because they promote what makes them the most money and I expect nothing better from them. The best we can do is make sure that the children in our lives know, so that if one day they end up in a position to help make a change, they can. And of course, to share articles like you did, so people who may not have anybody in their life to tell them about this stuff can learn.
So I've spent the last hour at work reading and listening to various songs from this. The fact that other rappers got in on this just because is the funniest thing in the world to me.
Queen of the Rox kind of slaps though.
