  I'll bet you 'she' is not one individual. This is a bunch of people scamming, that's been going on from many Eastern European countries for many, many years. Scams don't have genders.

- I got the first one yesterday and was mildly annoyed that you can not block the sender of a PM directly from your inbox - as you can with authors of post responses. Had to actually click that stupid profile (after reporting it) and block it from the profile page.
  
  I've read that it's multiple accounts across instances, so blocking would be tricky. I've had three so far and I keep getting different photos with each one, it's really weird

  I'll admit, the thing that made me go from Kbin to Lemmy was seeing tons of spam on unmoderated places. (Not blaming the admin for not being able to manage the site in that particular case, they had more pressing issues.)

- The person and the background look too similar between photos for this to be AI. The person behind the scam probably searched the web, and stole this poor person's photos. Judging from the poor quality, I'd date it around ~2008

- Probably the latter; the person, background, and outfit (when they didn't change it) look too consistent between images for it to be AI.

- It is showing that there's a lot of work to be done to deal with the spam issue. It's basically relying on every individual instance admin to moderate their stuff and defederate from other instances that drop the ball. If Lemmy gets big enough for spammers to really try to attack it, the admins will quickly get overwhelmed.
  
  This is from a Kbin/Mbin viewpoint, but from the very start a year or so ago spam was incredibly bad, usually porn. It was common to daily add more to the filter to see other postings. Then one day it got a lot better, either through a version update or better moderation control. I was even able to clear the old filters and not be flooded anymore. These pfishing attempts from Nicole and a few other names before her are the first ones I've seen in a long time. I just wish I could delete them from my PMs, for some reason that option isn't present at all.

- I'm using Thunder. I switched to it from Voyager. I'd say Voyager is stable, but boring. Thunder, on the other hand, has more bugs, but is also more customizable and ultimately looks better.
