'I was misidentified as shoplifter by facial recognition tech'. She says after her bag was searched she was led out of the shop, and told she was banned from all stores using the technology
Imagine what it's going to be like in a few years when there's a duopoly of theft prevention AI companies and every insurer mandates that shops use that technology. People are going to get instabanned from 50% of the shops in the entire country.
It's going to be particularly bad for people who live in regional areas where there's only one big box store for miles around.
Yet-another example of me being like "Well, I ain't no accelerationist but if they're the ones who hold all the cards and they opt for acceleration then what am I gonna do about it? 🤷"
I was told years ago by some so called 'security tech expert' this is why he only uses old photos of himself or ones done on a potato phone, if any at all, on big social media sites. He claimed most companies that did this sort of thing are cheap and scrape FB, google images, Insta and the likes before going on to data provided by stores or states, if they use those at all.
