It seems the Israel/Palestine brainrot has finally shown up with a Holo talent
Astel from Holostars committed the cardinal sin of "mentioning publicly he ordered McDonalds" (tweet / archive). Yes, really.
And his replies got flooded by mostly western fans posting a JP translation (archive) of that stupid boycott infographic as well as several of them having embarassing breakdowns on their own timelines over the fact Astel talked about french fries on twitter. One person went so far as DMing him to "educate" him and was promptly blocked leading to the person having a meltdown of their own (twitter / nitter).

Whether related or not the "storm" concluded with Astel tweeting out (archive) he would be taking a week off. I'm doubting it's a punishment as I don't think Holo gives two shits about this boycott noise and Astel didn't even say or do anything actually inflamatory. Could be he's just peacing out till the dust settles and people calm down, or could just be he's taking time to practice for the upcoming concert for Holostars which is less than 2 weeks away.
It has been said a billion times and I doubt anyone here needs to hear it, but while there’s nothing wrong about avoiding brands you don’t feel comfortable supporting, expecting (not just encouraging) others to do so is just dumb and counterproductive.
We all saw what happened with the Hogwarts Legacy shitstorm. Yes, JKR sucks and it would’ve been better if nobody streamed it. But all the harassment only made things worse. Why can’t people just voice their concerns in a polite and unassuming way?
Looking at it realistically though, Astel does take a lot of breaks, and the tweet doesn’t hint at anything specific. It’s probably just in preparation for the concert or just to relax a bit. Hopefully.
I understand the sentiment, but this is a bit extreme. Not to defend a mega corporation, but McDonald's in Israel is its own franchise, making it so they're able to their own thing. McDonalds in the Arab world spoke out against it too, so it's not as if the entirety of McDonald's is the same.
Now McDonald's HQ bought up the Israelian franchise, likely to avoid stuff like this again.
And then to force the boycott on others for eating McDonald's and being angry at them... Doesn't make much sense and doesn't help anyone, let alone the Palestinians
