I am having this weird issue where my mouse and keyboard will stop working when playing games. They are both plugged in the monitor's KVM
My setup is as follows : Kubuntu (Ubuntu 23.10) NVIDIA RTX 3060 TI Aorus FO48U monitor (with the KVM causing the issue)
I am not sure what other info is pertinent to my issue, so let me know what info is needed.
So to give more details, I will play a game (the last one being Jagged Alliance 3 on steam) and it will work fine for 40-45 minutes and then my mouse and keyboard stops working. They litterally get de-powered (no lights) by the KVM. I can power cycle the monitor and the mouse and keyboard will work for a few seconds then stop working again.
As a sanity check, I plugged my mouse and keyboard directly in the computer, so I know that the issue is with the monitor's KVM.
I recently installed Kubuntu , coming from windows 10, and in win10, there wasn't any issue. So there is definitely something going on with the monitor, Linux, and maybe the GPU.

And the cycles begins again when I power cycle my monitor.
I can see that the mouse, keyboard and monitors are re-added. And new device numbers are assigned everytime.

I've checked for any information of the monitor or gpu I could find around when the issue started.
I am not sure where else to start looking for more information. The information I gathered doesn't give me any clues because I am a new user and not familiar with all that information.
In the logs, we can clearly see that the mouse and keyboard from the KVM gets disconnected, but I don't see why this is happening.
I use the KVM switch because I only have one screen and can switch between my work computer and my personal computer. I understand the flakiness of KVMs in general, but I've used the monitor on windows for more than a year and a half and never had any issues.
Any help to tell me where to look next would be appreciated.

Sounds like your monitor is hitting a power drain and resetting the USB while under load. Try turning your refresh rate down, and disabling any extended USB power settings (like always on port, or rapid charging voltage) for the monitor and see if it stops.
That's something I will try. My only gripe with that explanation is that I didn't have the issue when my windows machine (which is exactly the same as it is now, except with Kubuntu) was using the same mouse, keyboard and setup.
I could try to put a mouse directly on my PC and keep my keyboard as is to see if I can trigger the issue. I might be on the brink of overcurrent and when the GPU is running hotter, it might trip the power drain.
My intuition is that since the nvidia driver on linux isn't great, there might be an issue between the GPU and the HDMI connection to the monitor. And since the functionality of the KVM depends on the HDMI connection to the PC, if there is an issue, that might cause the issue. In the Xorg log, we can see that there is a hiccup with the GPU and it seems to be restarting the hdmi.
Still, I will try to lower the power consumption by reducing the GPU load, and any settings I can change on my monitor and see if that causes issues.

Yeah, I get what you mean. You may also want to disable any USB power saving features on the host machine that is causing the disconnect. If Windows was working previously, maybe there's an issue with the power saving settings for your Linux install. It's clear from the logs there is a disconnect at USB, and then everything tries to reset though.
It's really hard to say for sure, because there's almost never accessible logs from the monitor or USB controller. First course of action is usually firmware updates. Monitor firmware, PC BIOS/UEFI. Then try swapping hardware. Make sure your USB-C cable is appropriately rated to carry video of the resolution you're using, plus the USB traffic. I assume it's not also carrying power. Then try different USB-C ports on the PC (front/back/addon cards).
If possible, you might try changing from USB-C to USB-B connections to see if that's any more reliable. Or at least use separate cables for video and USB. A quick check of the manual suggests that's supported.
Right now, my configuration is 2 hdmi cables for video output (one in my pc and the other in my work pc), a usb connection from each of these computer to the monitor (usb c for the work pc and usb b for the pc) and my mouse an keyboard are plugged each into their own usb port on the integrated kvm.
My monitor is updated to the latest firmware, and bios is updated to the last firmware it can be (it's an old motherboard, so not really supported anymore).
I doubt that the bios is the issue here because I had the same bios back on windows 10, and I didn't have the issue back then.
But that a good avenue to explore still. Thanks for your input.
Try some non-Razer input devices. I've seen multiple systems act strangely because of them, although the usual problem is that the system won't POST with the offending device plugged in... Unplug, boot system, plug in, and it works fine (until it's time to reboot or power-cycle).
Thanks for the input, but I am just not using the kvm anymore. It's flaky even in normal use. I will get a wireless mouse with connection profile and have 2 cables for my keyboard.
