Just picked up the game
Hey, just picked this up finally a few days ago and I'm loving it so far. I've played Diablo and a bit of Torchlight but never PoE. So there's a few things that are a little confusing to me but I'm enjoying it. I'm near the end of the campaign or at least I think I am. Playing a lich so far, I've tried out a shaman, paladin, and runemaster. But lich and shaman are my favorite so far.
I'm trying not to follow any guides so far. I've looked at a few to get ideas but I'm trying to just enjoy the leveling. I think I respec too often though. I keep running out of money trying to shatter things, respec, and buying stash tabs.
I don't have much more to say just saw the community and it was pretty quiet so I figured I'd make a post, see if people are around and maybe find some people to ask questions to if there's anyone watching the community here.

Yeah, everything I've seen says it's balanced enough to do what you want at least until you get further into the endgame. And that's true for me so far. I only tried one build that kinda failed. I think for me having not played something this complex before the crafting and what I'm aiming for is a little tough to wrap my head around so far. But hopefully once I'm just focusing on the endgame stuff it'll start to be a bit more clear.
yea no idea if I have made it to end game but tbh its kinda hard now and I see some fellas just destroying everything ... lol
Got it 2 days ago and Ioving it :) not reading any guides either just exploring. The game is so much fun. I'm still deciding which class to max first. Respec is amazing but I'm addicted to it lol
Got a runemaster to lvl 24 and now I'm getting all other classes to lvl 10 to see which one I like most. Might go for rogue (blademaster).
There's a lot of QOL stuff that I like. Some bugs here and there.
Anyone knows how I can see the dmg I'm doing after I equip a weapon (diablo had this feature) like if I'm double wielding, how to see the average.
I know you can check the tooltips of your abilities but they're probably not 100% accurate with all of the extra things they can do. Otherwise the character sheet is really in depth but I don't think there's a singular number that you can look at to see like an average.

Enjoy! I played in early access for a few years and I'm really enjoying the full release. I'll be honest, the falconer and warlock classes are way more fun than i expected them to be!
Remember, as long as you didn't select solo, your characters all share crafting materials, gold, and stash tabs, so leveling up one character first makes your next characters much easier to play through. I personally really enjoy having at least 1 of each major class, so I'm leveling up my warlock and rune Master right now (my falconer is maxed).
A few notes: flat damage is actually really good, because most percentage stats are additive. Elemental and fire, for example, get added together, but spell damage would be multiplicative with elemental.
Pay attention to item and skill bonuses like "added" and "more." Added is additive, more is multiplicative. So if you have +200% health, added health +5% would just add a +5 to the rest of your health making it 205%, but 5% more will multiply the entire end product by 1.05, which will effectively be more like 215%.
Also, +crit is base crit, which is very powerful, while +added crit is an added percentage of base (useful in the right build).
Most green set items aren't great, most uniques are situational. I try to save one of each just in case.

Thanks those tips are great! I just got into I think the last act. Had to pick between the bazaar and observatory. My build is working fine so far but now I'm really struggling between things like resistances, health, specific damage (poison in my case) or just spell damage. Like I went all in on poison because I figured picking one element and sticking to it was best but I'm realizing that I'm also (almost) exclusively using spells so I'm wondering if I needed all that instead of the more generic things like spell damage.
And of course all those extra stats like defensives, endurance, leech, etc.
For now I'm flying through the story and enjoying it so I must be doing okay but I'm always worried I'm going to pass up something I should be trying to forge into something for me later once I start into monoliths and later levels. Or things I should be shattering for later. I'm hanging onto most of the uniques and set pieces though in case I change my build or level an alt.
What's your build? I'm happy to make some suggestions! I will say, for a first character the merchants guild is much stronger, but once you have some gold from selling items, you should be able to buy some decent gear. Eventually you'll have decent gold for stash tabs and whatnot, and shards for forging, then the circle can be more fun on a second character. Note that any item tagged with a guild can't be used by a character outside that guild.
Poison damage is in a weird place but it can work. If your main damage is damage over time, don't forget that's another modifier, so get that buff as well for even more damage!
