Follow up: has anyone had any great success? I applied for one game, we had one session and DM bailed. Been reluctant to try again since.
I found a group on dndBeyond. We finished The Lost Mines of Phandelver++ and we’re getting into the meat of Decent into Avernus.
One player had to bow out at the end of Phandelver due to college. She was a great player, so it was a loss.
DM’s wife stepped in and we’ve been having a blast!
I use Fantasy Grounds, and they have a forum and discord with sections for players looking for gm, and reverse. I put a comment in the discord that I was looking for a game to play and within a couple of days had two offers that fit my schedule and have been playing in both games for over a year now. One game we even switched from a couple of Vaesen games to Pathfinder, and once that's done, who knows where we go. The other game is old school DnD, and it has been quite the adventure.
Interesting! I've always sort of thought that my enjoyment of dnd was due to playing with players I know, you've got that 100% buy in... But I guess nerds are everywhere on the internet and it would be the same with a group from a forum! Hmmm... Do I take the plunge?
roll20 I probably have like 15 people I've played with I could hit up for a game. I also have a consistent group I play with we've done 3 campaigns together and just started a new campaign myself
Roll20 has a section with listings. It seems quite busy although I've never actually participated. There are paid and free games. I would also check some of the bigger dnd discords. Most have text only games you can easily hop into.
Serious answer: be a GM. There's huge demand for GMs and if you start a game, lots of people will want to play with you.
Look for pen & paper Discord servers. They are made to find groups. At least that worked for me.
Roll20. They have a listings board. You can make one seeking a campaign or - more advisably, scroll through active listings and apply to the games that fit your requirements.
Reddit is a good place, there are large groups just for D&D and non D&D groups. Discord, I start most of my games with discord stands.
reddit is a good place
Are you sure about that?
Its large and the looking for group subs are just people looking for game groups
