  It's consistent with what I've seen other lawyers say and remember when the police are near it's always Shut The Fuck Up Friday.
  
  If you're pulled over they can make up a crime, the laws around driving and vehicles are almost endless. Give them your ID. But if you're just on the sidewalk or something, start recording and ask them what crime you're suspected of. "Suspicious" or "I got a call" is not a crime.
  
  You have an inalienable right to stfu. Use it.

  That's the extent of the conversation you should have with cops
  
  Here in CO you can be legally detained for 24 hours for no reason last time I checked. While you have every right to refuse ID when it's within your right, I'm much more likely to just hand it over rather than risk being detained overnight. Which sucks.
