Oof that's not a great idea. Protecting sovereignty is a hard enough sell internationally. Selling an invasion isn't something the international community is really showing an interest in right now.
I agree, putin is looking to glorify his accomplishments as "president". I think the moment he wants to use nukes his ersatz administration will be forced to pull the plug. Hopefully he dies as humiliatingly as all fascists deserve to die.
His successor will still be some flavor of authoritarian. My hope is that within the 3rd administration after putin the world will see Russians leading democracy.
That is to say, I'd like to see truly free and fair elections, rights of the people restored, ethnic Russian culture accepted and embraced, progressive social values supported, and freedom of the press protected.
The issue is escalating where Russia feels the need to use nukes. That is a no win for everyone.
If the other option is just letting Russia run continuously unchecked across sovereign nations, then I guess we eat some nukes. However, Russia knows the first nuke they detonate means not even their liege, China, will defend them.
Exactly. I think long-range strikes on military infrastructure is A-OK but actually expanding the frontline into russia would be a gigantic move, with potentially unpredictable results.
Now that we're solidly on the same page, I wanted to reply to:
Selling an invasion isn’t something the international community is really showing an interest in right now.
Unless you consider everything that Israel is doing. The international community is apparently perfectly fine with that kind of invasion, being complacent (at best) while thousands of innocent people are killed. Israel can at least offer the disputed claim that Oct. 7 caught them off guard and that hamas must be eliminated (I agree with the latter... fuck hamas), but russia has no ground to stand on for justifying their current attempted genocide. There's obviously some shady shit happening behind the scenes.
Russia does not officially recognize Ukraine. How often do people like you have to hear that? To understand that it means that Russia wants to kill ALL Ukrainians and erase them from the history books. Why do you think Putin and the Russians don't want to call it a war? You can only wage war against a country that you recognize.
So Hamas + supporting Russia + Palestine killing Israelis + Palestine going hand in hand with Hamas is ok?
Disgusting and so rotten inside.
