I've spent far too much time playing Against The Storm, and I'm positively in love. Every game is basically ~70 minutes of "can I make this build work." The difficulty escalation is great and I easily see myself spending dozens more hours with it. A+ game.
As a word nerd Chants of Sennaar scratched a puzzle itch I didn't know I had. Even hunted down more in the genre after completing but it seems beyond Heavens Vault there isn't much unfortunately.
Have to give my recommendation for Laika. Easily one of the most innovative metroidvanias of the year, and one of the most stylish of all time. It can get a bit rough towards the end, but it's usually because the developers expect you to use every single tool at your disposal in high level combat encounters. At the very least, everyone should take the hour to play through the free demo, and experience the power of parrying bullets with a motorcycle.
