Site for Canada's underground nuclear waste repository to be selected next year

A critical milestone is on the horizon for Canada's 175-year-long plan to bury its nuclear waste underground, with two pairs of Ontario communities set to decide if they would be willing hosts.

For the love of god, I hope they just pick one and don't let the community have a say. People are too dumb to understand how safe this is.
- Does solving the problem have an immediate political benefit? I actually don't think it does.
  Does letting the community argue about the issue have immediate political benefit? Well - it certainly will sweep other issues (read: scandals) under the rug.
  So I'm going to say, the community 100% will be brought into it, the location will end up being unselected, and the issue will be kicked down the curb for the next time the government needs an issue to debate about and to distract people with.
- Just stick it under parliament's centre block.
  Edit: stick it in the senate instead. It's unused storage space.

  If they want to drill a kilometer underground to store some inert concrete cylinders, that's no skin off my nose. Though it would probably make more sense for them to use the old mineshaft up the road from me...
Living nearby and paying attention to this, they've always said it was "mostly low level waste, like rubber gloves and lab coats. What are you so worried about?" and here they say

Love it when they brush off and underplay concerns and lie. Really builds trust. At least they've given us plenty of good bribes during this campaign. My town got some cool outdoor exercise equipment in the park that no one asked for. They also bankrolled The Bruce documentary which I thought was really good. Can't find it online though. No doubt people are coming around to it, generations of highly paid dog fucking will had by the guys at the security booth. Probably even better than the make work at the Point.
- I've been living here a few years and ever since I've moved here, when I started paying attention to it, this topic was always about where the spent fuel would be stored. You have one of those yellow signs out, don't you?
  
  I do not. And in fact I'm hoping to get on the gravy train like your mayor and get a grant. Seems like they give one to any yahoo with a sports team. Might as well sell my soul while there's a sellers market. I've always seen it described as "mostly low level waste"
Of course they propose dumping it on first nations territory.
Does Canada recycle those uranium pellets before discarding? Betcha communities would like to know before it gets dumped in their backyard
