Someone spent their time, money, and effort to write this in the sky

This is very different from the old sky writing. Is there a giant computer controlled bar that releases the smoke at the right time?

It's called skytyping. It's more expensive than regular skywriting because it needs 5 planes but it's easier to read.

- You seem knowledgeable about this stuff… where can you go in the United States to see actual skywriting? I’ve never seen it, but I’ve always lived the middle of nowhere.
- i expected it to be like a long bar with exits you can open and close by computer and that way you could then control it.. isn't 5 planes a bit complicated?

It uses multiple aligned planes (or perhaps drones at this point?) and yes, it is all computer-controlled.

i don't want to be THAT guy, but the companies that operate these planes have done silly things like this in the past, because we will talk about it, and someone will then book it for his birthday

That sounds like a win-win. I'm generally vehemently anti-advertising, but I'm willing to make an exception for skywriting cause it's rad.

Pointing out what it is doesn't necessarily carry judgment with it, it's just facts, and you can use them however you like.

- If it's a half hour job, 5 planes x $200/hr (conservatively high) x 1/2 hour = maybe $500... And very likely by the company that owns them to get people to talk about it.

I like how the smoke is just a bunch of little poofs. It makes me imagine the pilot pretended to fart and giggle every time.

You're underestimating the number of people with money and lots of time in their hand. There are people who dont have to do 9-5 to pay rent or mortgage. They were born with fuck you money.

oh its 5 planes? I thought this was some kind of laser that somehow activated the sky's icecrystals like .... sigh .... "chem"trails. (they are not 'chem' trails, they are atmospheric disturbances caused by planes)

Most of them are 5 planes. But you could do this with one plane "printing" out 5 rows of clouds. It could be a drone printing them out very close, or a manned plane further away.

It could also be photoshop.

can prob have a bunch of drones to do it but the visibility could be a problem
