Giberson, a political science major who specialized in "American ideas and institutions,” told FBI special agents he wanted to be at the Capitol to "support the parties that were making decisions regarding the certification of the electoral college, and that he was there to encourage what he believed to be the 'correct' certification."
Does this guy really need the national fame with MAGA that comes with making it on NBC? I don't get it. We've already had 400 convictions. This is a random kid that pled guilty to civil disorder and got 2 months in prison.
If anything, an article should question how someone whose allocution contradicts the evidence got 2 months despite the prosecutor pushing for a year.
Exactly. It should be anonymized in the media. "400 traitors, terrorists, and bigots have faced justice for their 1/6 actions, with more convictions coming in every day" <--that is the headline we should have. Few names, few faces, just facts.
WASHINGTON — A then-Princeton University student who yelled "drag them out" while he joined rioters trying to storm the U.S. Capitol was sentenced to two months in federal prison Wednesday, according to court records.
Giberson was a sophomore during the Jan. 6 attack, when he "participated in coordinated pushing and pulling against the police," according to a government sentencing memo, which said that at one point he even chanted “drag them out!” as rioters assaulted officers.
Giberson told the FBI that he "saw the fear" in former Officer Michael Fanone's eyes as he was dragged away by the mob.
His defense attorney said Giberson "studied the issues surrounding the 2020 [election] and concluded that state actors had interfered with the electoral process in unconstitutional ways."
Giberson's mother said that for her son, the 2020 election was like watching his favorite baseball team on a World Series run.
I feel Larry wanted to be a part of something that he was passionate about, I know he had no intent to be caught up with the wrong crowd," she wrote.
The original article contains 412 words, the summary contains 178 words. Saved 57%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!
He got a 2 month sentence I think the punishment fits the crime although it should be highered slightly considering he did assault a poilce officer prehaps 5 or 6 months would work prehaps maybe some compensation or a apology as well
Law enforcement was also beaten, crushed, feces smeared on walls and property destroyed. SWAT larpers ran through the facility with restraint zipties and a literal gallows was erected outside chanting for the death of the VP.
Why do y'all still pretend none of us saw the footage?
I'm beginning to think right wingers actually didn't. Do you really know everything that happened that day besides the people milling around in the main lobbies? If not, I suggest you look.
The apologists can never answer direct questions like: just WHAT were these people even DOING there in the first place? And just what were they going to do if they got their grubby paws on Pence or Pelosi?
They illegally entered the legislature while it was in session calling for the death of the elected official leading that legislature. I’m not happy that pence was elected but I acknowledge that he was elected. He was certifying his own loss of power, and they brought a noose and chanted for his death. The legislature was evacuated to safe rooms and one of their guards had to shoot someone who refused to stay behind the barricades or respect an armed guard saying to stay back while pointing a gun.
Just because someone fails to get the money doesn’t mean they didn’t attempt to rob a bank
I think most of causalitys were the rioters themselves looking into it one was shot one overdosed on drugs and 2 died of natural causes with a cop dying of natural causes aswell 138 poilce officers sustained some injuries with 5 being hospitalised on the day there were 4 cop suicides months after the riot which I think to be a little bit odd but that's probably just me
I don't know what's more pathetic, the failure of LEO's to stop the mob, the outrage over the costumes, or the gross rioters themselves. Either way, this isn't an attack. A riot sure, but not an attack. This was the outrage of Walmart white trash marching on officers who didn't want to end up in trouble for spraying the crowd with assault rifles.
For all the people calling this an attack though, it's pathetic. I don't want to see a real attack, but I disagree with this being called one.
