Didn't they already remake The Pink Panther with Steve Martin? I'm so old the terrible remakes are getting terrible remakes.
honestly, who cares about franchises. they get more milked than any cow out there (sarcasm) but its great to have a new face for a familyish style comedy
I love Eddie, have since about 1980. Had his stand-ups on cassette, listened them repeatedly in the car.
Man can be a comedic genius. But he's not Clouseau, I just don't see it.
I am a big Eddie Murphy fan. I even like Pluto Nash (in a so bad it's good way).

Pluto Nash is awesome, nothing wrong with it. I don't understand the low score it has on iMDB etc.
Pretty sure Pink Panther is an exclusively white comedy. I'm sure Murphy can create a great version centred around his style, but I've always preferred efforts to make new content rather than reusing and drastically adjusting old content. He and co. should write a new script instead. You don't mold the foot to fit the shoe, and when movie producers do, it's a mutilated and often ugly result.
They have had black people in France for hundreds of years. There could absolutely be a black goofy french detective, just hire someone from France to do it.
The boringest franchise

I can only imagine how this will end up like Dr. Doolittle and The Nutty Professor. You know how bad you have to be to make Jerry Lewis look good?
Steve Martin didn't even pull it off.
I can totally see him slapping Cato, his man servant. Unless, of course the character is edited out due to modern audiences. Which is not as improbable as it sounds.
Beating a servant was funny in the 1960s
I have no strong memory of the one they did with Steve Martin. However I think they switched it to something like his assistant didn't they? Or did they just do away with it all together? Either way it was completely forgettable compared to the originals. And even the originals overstayed their welcome a bit. The Last of The Originals didn't even have Peter Sellers in it. And the son of the Pink Panther which at least tried to have some sort of continuity was awful.
Hell even the Pink Panther movies themselves were a spin off of another movie which was much better. If you haven't seen it you go watch a shot in the dark. That's where Clouseau got his start.
Sounds fun!
