Oops! All woke!
Oops! All woke!
Oops! All woke!
Imagine that you're awake, with your eyes open, aware of the issues in the world, and wanting to be part of making it better, and...
...there's a massive number of people who think you're a shithead for believing that, and should probably be murdered for it. Just do what they tell you.
Woke has become one of my favourite words. It's like when i was a kid, and everything was gay. Now it's woke. He's playing street fighters one woke controls. And same with the word gay, and how it was used, it was always funny when someone used it as an actual insult and you're just like: oh yeah, i actually don't care. Guess i'm woke then.
When I first started my current job a couple of years ago, there was a discussion going on in the office complaining about 'woke', albeit fairly mildly, which I wasn't really participating in. My boss, who's ex-army asked 'Are you woke Almacca?', to which I replied 'I'm woke as fuck.' She hasn't brought it up again since. :)
Fuck you, I won't do whatcha tell me!
I liked RATM, but then they became political. No thank you.
Yeah, why can't they go back to their namesake, being a reference to the Matrix!
um, didn't they break up a long time ago?
Is a joke. About people that are like 'that'
You just repeated the same maga comment you can find in any thread anywhere ever. What are you guys smoking?
Movies and TV shows are modern art forms, and as such are created by artists.
Artists have almost always been politically left of centre, usually wildly so.
Video games have likewise been ‘woke’ for a long fucking time too - but don’t you dare try to make that point to GamersTM.
Next they'll be complaining that Christianity's gone 'woke'.
Sorry, you're too late. As usual, conservatives are already more awful than you expect.
https://newrepublic.com/post/174950/christianity-today-editor-evangelicals-call-jesus-liberal-weak
Moore told NPR in an interview released Tuesday that multiple pastors had told him they would quote the Sermon on the Mount, specifically the part that says to “turn the other cheek,” when preaching. Someone would come up after the service and ask, “Where did you get those liberal talking points?”
“What was alarming to me is that in most of these scenarios, when the pastor would say, ‘I’m literally quoting Jesus Christ,’ the response would not be, ‘I apologize.’ The response would be, ‘Yes, but that doesn’t work anymore. That’s weak,’” Moore said. “When we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we’re in a crisis.”
If they think Christ is too weak and his words outdated, then maybe they should stop calling themselves Christians?
Superman is woke because he just helps people and doesn't charge a fee.
Didn't one of the old superman actors recently come out to complain that superman is woke. He literally played the character and didn't get it.
Star Wars: Fighting space Nazis
Superman: protecting people from Lex Luthor; evil billionaire
Star Trek: Post scarcity society where all humans are treated as equals and nobody “gets” to be a billionaire (Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism)
Doctor Who: had a woman Doctor once
Marvel: “Evil is bad, how about let’s not genocide” (ignoring the billionaire worship w/ Iron Man)
X-Men: always been an allegory for LGBTQ+ and disabled folks
RATM: I mean, it’s in the name.
Starting to see a theme here hmm
Babylon 5: Fighting Earth fascists. Hey, wait a damn minute...
I always thought X-Men was about civil rights...
Yeah it’s an allegory for racism and civil rights.

Doctor Who: had a woman Doctor once
Also Rose, the first companion of the new series was constantly showing the viewers the working class's perspective throughout all their adventures, and fighting for those people at every chance.
Then there are also characters like Dr. River Song and Madam Vastra, who are always shown as strong women who can fight their own.
Also the second companion, Martha, was a black medical student. One of the best companions too, up there with Amy and Clara if you ask me. Wish she'd gotten more than one season.
New Who has always been woke AF I don't know why they minimized it so much in the other comment. Like, yes the main doctor is almost always a white man, but the show itself has often (and even more so in recent episodes) had a clear "woke" agenda. And I'm not saying that in a negative sense. The showrunner for much of it was/is a gay "absolutely happily left wing" man ffs.
Edit: also, this thread talking about strong female leads jn Dr Who and not discussing Donna Noble is just wrong.
Star wars is also heavily influenced by the Vietnam war. This influenced is alleged to be non deliberate.
Doctor Who: had a woman Doctor once
Don't forget about the wokeness of the 15th and 16th Doctors.
Star Trek: Post scarcity society where all humans are treated as equals and nobody “gets” to be a billionaire (Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism)
Everyone's a billionaire in Star Trek. But oddly enough, everyone is controlled by a huge naval organisation.
Nah, most of humanity at least is either living idyllic lives, or chose to live on a frontier world or research station or something. Starfleet's just the exploratory arm of the Federation; but that's where most of the fun stories are!
It would be a boring movie if the protagonist were asleep all the time.
Conservatives are scared of literally everything.
It must be exhausting to be such pussies.
Equally exhausting to live in a world where those pussies make all the fucking rules.
If by "woke" you mean scientific intelligence, reason, truth, honour and compassion, then I'm all for it.
Doesn't woke just mean being aware of issues in your society?
I don't really see what scientific intelligence has to do with that tbh.
not specifically scientific intelligence, but more so trusting the scientific process that has been developed over centuries, and not refuting all scientific claims that conflict with specific political motives (i.e: believing that climate change is real and heavily influenced by humans and that we should stop polluting == woke. not believing in climate change because Big Oil lobbies ethically compromised politicians that then tell their constituents that climate change is a hoax; being one of those easily manipulated people == anti woke)
I see scientific intelligence as pursuing truth, which means being aware, I guess.
We can legitimately level a lot of hate at Hollywood and a large swath of "content creators" online for escalating the very idea of "woke" into positions so delusional or terrible that I'm still not convinced it's not just psyop all the way down. They made the idea of progressivism and social good seem cringe, socially out-of-touch, ham-fisted and unrealistic.
I'd love to see less "recast famous story in new races for controversy and profit" and more original stories that show actual struggles that various groups face because of their ethnicity or other identities. (I'd love to see a superhero movie that goes after corrupt healthcare company CEO's but someone already tried to make that story on their own.)
They shot themselves in the dick for the express purpose of creating drama and engagement while trying to appeal to their mental image of "liberal america" in pursuit of profit, not ideals.
Honestly, the new Superman movie is a bit of a breath of fresh air, it delivers a powerful social message without falling into the tired tropes and doesn't sugar-coat it, you know EXACTLY who they're targeting and who they represent. But they're also not trying to pander to both-sides. They kept Superman consistent to his values and showed that bad things are in fact, bad. And bad guys exist and are bad. (And they're usually the wealthy elite.)
It's more of an ensemble of virtue-signals denoting membership in a certain tribe. Same people tho.
Rage against the machine became woke? They were über woke before it was a thing.
That's the joke I guess?
I think I heard a shot...
Well yeah, they're all woke now. They used to be woke before too, but they're still woke now as well, as they should.
It wasn't woke then, because woke wasn't made up yet
Woken was first used in the 1930s to encourage black Americans and other minority groups to be aware of the prejudice and discrimination against them by white Americans.
It's more like the term hadn't become a catchall phrase for the right to dismiss all forms of injustice without having to engage with the actual issue.
Little babies getting their feelings hurt. If only they could read and understand that woke is a form of being awake/aware and their self owns by making fun of it is blatantly hilarious. Only the media and the right get all up in arms over woke, the rest of us just call it reality.
I'm shocked to learn that the band that wrote Wake Up might possibly be woke!
Hollywood didn’t go “woke” you just grew up to be a piece of shit.
but is it really shit if it makes a stockholder a lot of money? /s
They can’t grasp that these things have not changed, but they joined the bad guys so their perspectives changed. They can’t see the billionaires gilded puppet strings manipulating them.
I thought when they said “Wake Up!” they were actually saying “Be passive! The status quo is totally fine!”
Man, why cant anything be FOR the systems of oppression that prop up my fragile masculinity?
Seriously! I started listening to Rage Against the Machine specifically because they had songs like “Thank you, I’ll always do what you tell me” and “Wake Up (to the genocidal leftist conspiracy)”. This whole 180 they’ve made has been devastating.
Except Starship Troopers, that movie is taken at face value. Would you like to know more?
If those fuckers could read I wonder what they'd think of the book.
I'm doing my part!
Clancy Brown is fucking amazing.
MEDIC!
Wait till they learn the matrix is about trans rights.
I'm convinced that that was just something that they decided to tack on to as an afterthought because it doesn't really make sense to view it in that context.
Especially if you include the sequels.
I think the confusing part is because the story of the movie doesn't fit with what most people, including myself, assume a trans-film would be.
The aesthetic and the environment I can kind of see are trans-coded. Jacking in to a fake world, and living in one where you're your true self fits. Even the plot as a whole of living under oppression to be your fake self I can understand. Getting away from the broad strokes it really challenges what I expected a trans-film to be and that's just confusing.
It’s not about trans rights as much as it’s a highly metaphorical film about trans experience. So metaphorical in fact it could be argued it fails (failed) in its messaging. Even after the Wachowski sisters broke the news to everyone, the film still isn’t regarded that way. It’s a nice after note and I’m certainly not trying to rag on trans rights or issues here, it’s just that The Matrix didn’t do much of anything for trans people.
The major theme of the film is awakening from a false consciousness. It’s an existentialist picture. This leaves it open to any of countless interpretations unrelated to gender. I think many more people have interpreted the film as Christian with Neo in the role of Jesus and with some of the names of characters and places having biblical themes. The film’s actual depiction of gender is rather conventional, including the action girl trope shown by the character Trinity.
Taken together, these two details make it very difficult to support the Wachowskis’ claim in the text. If anything, the opposite could be argued.
It's also about the art of bullet-dodging in a very cool way and with style. And the scientific evidence that the 90's were the peak of humanity.
I just watched Alien (1979) and the damn democraps made it woke. When I was growing up in the 80's not everything had to be a social commentary. The cops saved people like in Robocop (1987) and the terrorists were stopped like in Star Wars (1977) because America are the good guys. MAGA!!
Star Trek has always been woke. Since day one!
Same is true for a lot of the franchises
I always wondered if the people who commonly are depicted as the bad guys in movies ever just don't go to movies because they hate being depicted as evil, but it turns out they just didn't actually pay any attention to the movies to have noticed the bad guys are basically them.
"No, what I'm doing is different!"
How did you edit this? Please share, I am looking to edit a meme with this template.
graphics person here - so what you want to get is krita or gimp, krita has better UI, gimp is more versitile. Or photoshop if you feel like uhh, borrowing it from adobe (don't give them money they have enough)
i'm basing this mini-tutorial on photoshop so exact names and places of the tools you want might be different, but the process should be the same across most if not all image editing software
I reckon there is right wing propaganda to normalise vitriol and de-empathise the public to pave the way for full fascism. Many of these accounts complaining about supposed wokeness are probably bots.
If you ain’t woke, you ain’t getting laid.
It’s basic science.
We all have done the same shit ig
I guess The Shining was anti-woke since the only person to die (other than Jack) was the black guy.
All woke and no play makes Jack a dull boy
Actually woke is good now because they “defeated” it so now it’s counterculture and therefore cool to be woke again. I don’t make the rules.
Hmm, is woke woke?
Woke smashed through the floor of woke and wound up on top of woke.
All work and no play makes Hulk an angry green man.
They all woke up facing the monster.of fascism.
I have never seen doctor who. What I know really doesn't speak to me, it seems too "random new being is the answer" to me. No hate against the show. I mean, I am fairly certain that I am basically complaining that a romance book is romantic.
That being said, doctor who seems to be quite obviously saying, be maximally tolerant and fight the tyrants and intolerant. which seems woke at this point.
When I was a child, we called it, not being a dick, but I guess it is woke now.
Doctor who has a lot of guest writers and it shows. There's some really good stuff and then there's other episodes which really didn't need to be made.
For me Doctor Who is a fun campy show. It’s got some heart that serves as it’s basic message and occasionally more directly deals with contemporary politics, but it’s so silly that it’s hard to take that seriously most of the time.
Rips off Reagan's Star Wars scam, rename it and call the movies it was named after woke. Is that irony? It's stupid for sure.
It is most as if the ground state of being is Awake.
Who would have thunk it!?
It's funny cuz it's woke
Hmm
Woke sells product.
It used to. I mean, at least the way corporate America used to try to use inclusivity in order to reach a broader market. It was just natural to reach out to as many people as possible.
That's not how it works anymore since attention spans died broadly and "engagement" is the new currency. Everyone has realized that the new, hot form of marketing is to recast a famous movie in a way that makes everyone mad or shoehorn some social issue into an unrelated story, and then amplify the worst voices on either side of any controversy and then you will get free exposure online as millions of people argue bitterly if recasting General Custer as a black lesbian trans catgirl was okay to do or not. (I mean, I'd watch the fuck out of it.)
Companies pandering to a money-spending public - son of a gun, who would have seen that coming??
If woke means "poorly written and pandering to the left" this is accurate on all fronts except Rage, which is awesome.
Woke means to be aware of the fact that there are systematic injustices, and the need to address them.
Don't let evil men take the word away from us. Stay woke, y'all.
Being woke is the vaccine against the broke mind virus. 100% efficacy. Get woke, stay woke.
It doesn't.
Woke here and Woke there ~ Unfortunately, today's society is becoming increasingly Woke.
It's more of a shallow, faux-woke pandering
Maybe, but then these franchises were woke originally too. RATM also had a song about police being evil in... 1992. Superman's biggest villain was a billionaire.
To be clear I don't consider woke to be a bad thing unlike the person you replied to.
Uhh... aside from superman (which i haven't seen and can't speak to) most of those are fairly "woke"
Not that I have a problem with that.
The point is that they've always been 'woke', and it's insane that people think that 'now' they've changed to 'become' woke.
