Azov, a neo-Nazi battalion in Ukraine, was once widely condemned. After Putin's invasion, the unit found friends among America’s elite.
Because they are Nazis. If you set at a table with 9 nazis then there is 10 nazis at the table.
The inability of the West to address the problem with Azov has been bugging me since the start of the war. They're literal Nazis, and they've been used repeatedly by Russia to justify their "denazification" propaganda.
It's okay to have complex feelings about them, geeze. It's okay to recognize they fought bravely for Ukraine but to acknowledge their ideology is toxic and has no place in Western society. That we would close our eyes to it in the name of winning at all costs is gonna bite us down the road.
