I thought the baby was a good addition, though I didn't realize the mom was supposed to be 9 months pregnant (maybe the baby was premature since they're under so much stress while being underfed?). Also, the baby deserved any winnings for immediately shutting the fuck up and sleeping through the night at 2 days old in a dorm of like 60 people. They had no right to even discuss killing her.
It ties into a similar plot point with The Platform. Spoilers for the first movie: a child is somehow in the prison, but nobody believes it. The director has said it's an allegory of how people get trapped within a system, are abused, and no one thinks their suffering is real. Squid Game I thought went down a similar road. No one thinks a baby could compete in gladiatorial games, yet there a baby is, forced to entertain psychopathic billionaire sadists.
