Piped has literally never worked for me. I would assume it had something to do with the cocktail of privacy and adblocking extensions I have running, which is precisely why I want a YouTube alternative so badly to begin with.
The page loads on Firefox for Android but pressing play does nothing
Same, unfortunately
Interesting, it played fine with Libretube (piped frontend app) installed.
