If you're giving more than you're receiving and not even breaking even, and everything is "the church first", it's a cult.
Don't forget the amount of tithing you are "expected" to pay, even if you are in dire straights!

My parents are pretty much estranged from my son (their grandson) since they have decided to cook for 50+ missionaries almost every week. For the first 5 or so years of his life, they babysat him twice (the only real time they ever spent with him). Every other time we tried, they had the excuse of "having to feed the missionaries".
He's 11 now and I think they sense they screwed up that relationship, but it may be lost as my son doesn't seem to regard them in any special way.
