Oops, we accidentally drugged the world’s fish

Then they monitored what the drug did to the fish as they migrated, as young salmon do, from a river out to the Baltic Sea. The clobazam fish also passed through obstacles along the way β€” two hydropower dams β€” at a faster clip. TroutFodder/Getty ImagesResearchers have also shown that male fish exposed to estrogen struggle to build nests and put on courtship displays for females. Rebecca ForsbergAs they discovered, the fish drugged with clobazam were more likely to make it to sea compared to those that were drug-free. Maybe it’s helping the fish recover from stress faster.”Outside experts I talked to mostly agree with his interpretation β€” that the clobazam likely made the fish less risk-averse. πŸ–ŠοΈοΈπŸ€–

from DogTraining (!dogtraining@lemmy.world)

One club uses old-school methods (no treats, hard corrections) while trial/show trainers are more positive. The other club is very positive, using treats/toys, minimal corrections except for sniffing/scratching. I believe in positive training but want open discussion on different techniques. πŸ–πŸ€–

πŸ“° Ants perform life saving operations β€” the only animal other than humans known to do so (direct link), posted in Entomology (πŸ‘76 πŸ‘Ž3)

Ants perform life saving operations β€” the only animal other than humans known to do so

Florida carpenter ants identify limb wounds on their nestmates, then treat them with either cleaning or amputation. They are only the second animal in the world known to do this β€” along with humans. The scientists suggest ants only amputate femur injuries, rather than all leg injuries, because of speed limitations. πŸ–‹οΈπŸ€–
