Sauvage, seriously? Might as well wear Axe Body Spray. Wack-ass, pickup artist - coded, insecure teenager cologne is what it is. Sauvage might be one of the worst smelling colognes I've ever smelled in my life.
Not only is he a colonial piece of shit, he does fuck all with the nearly unlimited access he has to the French fragrance industry.

my visceral assumption when i realize someone is one of those heavy commercial fragrance people is that they smell bad and are covering something up. which isn't a moral failing, but i'm not into it, either. i stay away.
i was at the hardware store earlier looking at stuff in an aisle and cut a pretty crazy one mere moments before a couple cut through and i'd be lying if i didn't laugh thinking about them getting a sample of my beef.

I know you are joking but french nobles really used to urinated out of the windows in Versailles and defecated behind doors and in the gardens some times. Fun fact but Louis 14 basically never washed himself and used a great amount of perfume as well.
Louis XIV should have gotten the guillotine just like his grandson. But he probably didn't smell that bad.
Experimental historians have shown that changing your clothes multiple times a day, like the dozens of times Louis XIV would, soaks up the sweat and smells quite effectively.
It's a form of conspicuous consumption as only the King and high noble can afford to go from a sleeping outfit to breakfast outfit to early morning outfit to morning tea outfit and so on etc.
This is a French tradition btw
