Bong Joon-ho’s “Mickey 17” is both a critique of gangster capitalism and an argument in favor of proletarian revolution.
Just watched this earlier today. I thought it was good, a little bit of "fairy tale for adults", but that's not a bad thing.
The social commentary is relatively toned down. IMO, the people who are complaining about the political elements are in a sense validating the critiques (one wouldn't complain if one didn't see any parallels).
When I saw it earlier this week with someone and we both thought there were branching stories they started to travel down that ultimately were never followed or explained.
Unless I missed something, there was never any branching in the movie. To be honest, it didn't see like that kind of movie, there was never a thriller/mystery vibe. In many ways it was a very straightforward narrative and almost classical high-level story format.
If you don't mind, please share what part you thought was branching (via spoiler tag?), I am genuinely curious. I don't remember being distracted, I enjoy the movie. 😄
