CBC/Radio-Canada’s funding by the federal government is well below the average funding of G7 countries, which is $62.20 per capita. Currently, the government grants approximately $1.38 billion to CBC/Radio-Canada, which represents approximately $33.66 per capita, thereby placing Canada in sixth place in the Group of Seven (G7) in terms of public funding per capita for its national public broadcaster. The per capita funding that CBC/Radio-Canada receives is therefore equal to approximately half of the G7 average. The Minister intends to bring Canada more into line with its G7 counterparts.
On the other hand, I get that they don't want to act as a moderator when they don't have to.
A Mastodon server to host journalists accounts and official feeds would be nice though, which people could follow from their home instances.
Mastodon doesn't have a billionaire backer.
Which is a good thing.
And? I'm 99% sure that wasn't a factor when they created the accounts. It's just that mastodon has a generous 0% chance at becoming mainstream compared to Bluesky. And also Jack Dorsey has left the bsky board a long time ago, he's not involved with the project anymore.
Would be nice if Radio-Canada verified their account through their domain name to add a bit more legitimacy to the account.
