Even ignoring how disgustingly immoral it is, I don't understand school shooters. Even if they don't CW themselves at the end of it, they have to know going in that doing this means their lives are effectively over. What do they get out of blowing away a bunch of kids that makes that worth it to them?
The news says it was a teenage perpetrator this time. I'll try to discuss the phenomenon in the abstract. I have no expertise in the subject, just a lifelong Amerikkkan.
The confluence of white liberal parenting(the worst parents in the world), crypto-white supremacist communities, cities, and towns run by fascist death-worshipers, the market forces acting on them, and America itself produce mass killers like this intentionally. Every single time, and it has never happened by complete accident, a context is created by America that allows this to happen. A terrible, horrible gun culture, laws, information, and access. Instead of raising a kid with any direction or care the parents will allow market forces to pull and influence their child in a billion different directions. Now they are going to talk about mental illness, which at this point has been created by all the other external factors, but the community doesn't see it that way and cannot do self-reflection. All that is left is a lonely individual, with no direction, constant precarity*, piloting a body producing a variety of different hormones linked to aggression and bad decision-making(we've all been there too.) Does it matter at this point how much this person was bullied or was a bully? That their motivation was revenge or just rage? I don't believe so.
There is immorality involved here, but it's not in the perpetrator. The immorality is from their parents, from their communities, and America, The Great Satan, of course.
*Children and teens are an oppressed underclass in America. They have no power, influence, or representation. With all the bad parents we have in America children are basically prey to the market.
There is immorality involved here, but it's not in the perpetrator.
I agree with 90% of your post, but I have to disagree with this part specifically. You can't ignore material conditions, and the greatest portion of blame belongs at the top, but that don't absolve someone of any possible responsibility for their actions. There's a reason the Nuremberg Defense doesn't fly.
White conservative parents are objectively the worst in the world. At least liberal parents don't hit their kids, and they are stereotyped as being permissive instead of strict and abusive.
I read into this a little bit, the shooter was a racist groyper femcel who wanted to kill all “moids” (femcel term for men) and this is the school she went to. They posted a manifesto on twitter but forgot to make the google doc public, and the people she follows on twitter are posting shit defending her and posting the most terminally online esoteric racism I’ve ever seen. It’s so disgusting and I feel gross for even reading about any of this. Something needs to be done about these online communities, idk what but they need to be censored somehow I can’t believe it’s just allowed out there in the world (especially on sites like twitter and discord considering how massive they are), and it’s just allowing so many alienated, impressionable teenagers to be pulled in and indoctrinated into hate and nihilism. Idk I think the internet might’ve been a mistake
So weird to hear the shooter is a girl. In my mind these things are tied to men but it looks like her brain was really poisoned by reactionary ideology. According to a twitter source looks like she was bullied, had a bad family life, and became a reactionary. Supposedly had a long-distance boyfriend too they're claiming who had no idea.
Maybe I'm putting my own bias in this but I really don't think her mental health was helped by being put in a Christian school. Those kids can be vicious towards anyone who stands out even a little as "other", more-so than public school kids by far. Add on top of it the viewpoint they push, this kind of black and white, good and evil world and all the other baggage attendant to Christianity, especially emphasized in Evangelical forms of which this school almost has to be part of (if it was Catholic it'd have the name of a saint usually). Probably brought up in a lot of hate, steeped in it, isolated, got ostracized further by those Christian kids for not being the perfect image of a 'good Christian girl'(tm).
I was brought up in an Evangelical household. School shootings were seen as happening because they took god out of public schools. That and the trans panic hate they're stoking are why those people are clinging to transphobia and other excuses and distractions (shooter doesn't seem to have been trans and makes no mention of anything like that in their manifesto).
No country has ever been more adept at turning isolated teenagers with borderline intelligence into right wing "esoteric" ideologues, school shooters, and family annihilators. It's a sick society and every right wing blue check account that helped radicalize this kid bears the same responsibility as her shithead parents.
