Trump and Vance face 'immediate arrest' as criminal charges filed over Springfield hoax
I'm beginning to think RawStory exaggerates their headlines for clicks. An organization has asked a court to arrest them, a FAR cry from facing immediate arrest.
Wow. Just looked into your comment history. Wow.
Seems you really need some good things in your life. Let us know if we can help.
wow, just read this comment, wow, what a string of words ordered in such a specific manner to demonstrate a specific concept.
Seems like you just need some more strings of words in your life. Let us know if you need any examples of better or different strings of words.
He's fine.
I'm not going to look into the parent poster's history, but they are right. As much as I despise Trumpists, the GOP and the media enabling them, RawStory is no better. Whenever I see such headline, I get to say "let me guess... yup. RawStory." I'm this close to blocking them. I'm done with yellow press, be it from Fox News, Breitbart or, yes, RawStory. Give me something more objective, like APNews*, for example.
*I don't like APNews movie critics, to be fair.
I absolutely despise Donald. But RawStory headlines are nearly as false as the drivel coming out of his mouth.
But they're right tho
? What in there got you so upset? The notion that playing sports could be fun? The horror of someone, ugh, criticizing communism?
I'm genuinely surprised and morbidly curious.
"There's nothing special about Trump and Vance that entitles them to get away with what they've done and are doing," the attorney added. "They think they're above the law. They're not."
Except for the Senate Republicans who would not hold their own accountable for crimes they committed or the federal supreme Court Justice feeding Trump's attorney legal advice to use in the lower courts. And the billions in PAC funds and trinket grifts used to campaign for politicians and appoint judges who are loyal to them above the Constitution and citizens. And anything Trump did as president is legal if he says it was part of the job. Except for those facts sure they're just like you or me in the eyes of the law.
Yeah, you can't even pretend that Trump isn't above the law when the Supreme Court has literally ruled that he is at their discretion.
I believe this would be a state issue though, so some of that doesn't apply.
Tempted to remove as "Fox by Proxy" but here's an alternate source which confirms the story and raises an excellent point:
https://www.npr.org/2024/09/25/g-s1-24436/haitian-group-charges-trump-vance-springfield
“If it were anyone else other than Trump and Vance who had done what they’ve done — wreak havoc on Springfield, resulting in bomb threats, evacuated and closed government buildings and schools, threats to the mayor and his family — they would have been arrested by now,” Chandra said. “They are not above the law.”
Chandra said the U.S. Supreme Court's July ruling granting ex-presidents broad immunity from criminal prosecution does not apply in this case because Trump is currently a private citizen and Vance was not acting in his capacity as a senator when he amplified the rumors that members of Springfield’s 15,000-member Haitian community were eating people’s pets.
"If it were anyone else ... they would have been arrested by now,” Chandra said. “They are not above the law.”
Those two sentences don't add up.
Yeah. "They shouldn't be above the law." works better
They add up to "therefore they should be attested".
"They are not above the law" is the justification for calling for their arrest.
So this is the real reason why Trump cancelled his Springfield visit.
"i'm still voting for trump!"
--this fucking guy
Sonos DeWine, that shady fuck.
All the lawfare makes me more likely to vote for Trump every day.
Seeing the existing power structure try all this anti democratic bullshit to take him down makes me think he must have something they don’t.
Yea the anti-democratic bullshit like lemme check my notes making him accountable for the countless felonies he committed?
Get the fuck out of our America you traitor trash.
LOL gtfo
you were always voting for trump
Da, comrade! Is good candidate, nyet?
Bro he's a criminal who staged a coup in any other time in history he would've been executed immediately
Accountability for actions that effect people other than yourself is necessary for a healthy democracy. Your problem is mistaking accountability for persecution.
brother, trump LITERALLY tried to overthrow democracy, we're literally JUST trying to hold him accountable for this, and it's failing at EVERY possibly opportunity because of republicans.
Also, literally none of this is anti democratic. This is literally why we have the courts and the DOJ and the supreme courts, these all exist to insure that nobody steps too far out of line.
More likely to vote for a bigot & rapist? Sounds good lol
I think it would be pretty hilarious if this was the thing that got Trump in jail. Aaaaaall the other stuff? Nah. but this Springfield hoax? Yeah we got to do something about that.
Silly billies. Don't they know that the law doesn't apply to rich people?
Still, good on them for trying and further bringing into the collective consciousness that this is the case.
Good on them for trying.
As fucking if lmao
Trump isn't ever going to actually go to jail. That would set a precedent for us to actually keep our political leaders accountable, and that ain't happening.
If anything, they've done everything to excuse outright corruption in the US government. SuperPACs, bribes, it's all getting legitimized. You can't even hear reports criticizing civil asset forfeiture not only because the practice is so widespread, but now people are more concerned about even worse things. A massive and overcrowded private prison system being used as a system of low or non-existent labor akin to slavery? Last decade's news.
Please, tell me how the US was founded as a revolution from tyranny and corruption again. Was that the policy when manifest destiny trampled on native American lives and left them in enclosed casinos? The US has always been about colonizers and subjugation, and even to this day continues to support modern world colonizers who, lacking the absence of modern civilization, rationalize the natives as militants when they oppose and make sure to place them besides terrorists. It speaks volumes to the sad state of global affairs that they are still the better option in terms of global superpowers to ally with.
The US compares itself to and lets itself be shaped by the lowest common denominator. Anything better, too socialist - but nevermind the small group of oligarchies power is organized around who do get the socialist treatment anyway.
there will be parades and celebration on his death though. hell never be forgotten, but not the way he wants.
Well that's one way to keep them out of your city while campaigning. Can we do that here in MI? I'm sick of them being here every week.
Have an immigrant file a suit for libel (or slander...I forgot which is which. Hell, both).
Libel, like library

Why would you need to disable your ad blocker? If it's detected, then you're obviously not using a good one.
Didn't cause me any trouble either
Unfortunately, Safari doesn’t support uBlock Origin or many other top tier ad blockers. The one I use (1Blocker) is detected on that site and blocked from viewing the article.
I'm positive that they'll be arrested and face justice 🤦🏽
@just_another_person@lemmy.world Looks like Rawstory heard the complaints and modified the headline on you.
The new headline is "Trump and Vance face criminal charges over Springfield hoax"
If you could make this match, that would be great!
I'm sure that will work. "ONE SIMPLE TRICK THE REPUBLICANS DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT."
Yeah mate, a criminal record
Lock them up! Lock them up! Lock them up!
Why are politicians not accountable for spreading lies? Not even ridiculous ones like this?
Lets hope they get this done. Trump and Vance as prison buddys, now that is something I'd love to see.
Send them to prison and hide the couches.
Naw. Just cover the cushions in sand.
Sand would be uncomfortable, put powdered glass in between the cushions and put fiberglass covers on the cushions.
They’ve already ruined their reputations themselves, honestly keep it up🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿
And for the half of Americans that continue to support them without question after having done so, honestly. Half of the American flag should be drenched in sewage to reflect how they are leaving the reputation of the US within and outside of it.
I don't think half of Americans support him.
Hang 'em both.
"there's no room for political violence"
LOL /s
fuck both those ass holes
Would love to see it happen, but I won’t hold my breath.
Stochastic terrorism needs to have more severe criminal penalties for career politicians specifically. Right-wing figureheads have been getting away with this shit for too long.
We're now penalizing the parents of school shooters, so if we find out that someone who threatens to bomb a school is a super fan of X person, then X person should face some sort of penalty if they continually put out deliberate lies about said school. We did a version of this with Alex Jones already, just follow through with that logic honestly.
Ugh, Trump's looking especially hideous in that picture!
Yeah of course they do. Nobody is surprised that the DNC is desperate to take these guys down legally.
Trump has faced two assassins in seven weeks for fuck’s sake. They’re desperate.
The would-be assassins were your people. All types of Americans are sick of your traitorous felon.
Leave it to democrats to take a question about basic decency that massively works in their favor, and turn it into a dubious question of whether a criminal law was violated beyond a reasonable doubt.
the article is about the Haitian Bridge Alliance filing criminal charges because of the effects the "Haitian immigrants eating our dogs" lie has caused. This has nothing to do with party sides and everything to do with cause and effect. Jd vance openly said on tv that if he has to lie to get people's attention then he'd do it, and now we're seeing what happens when you mobilize a large part of the country to harass and discriminate against legal Haitian immigrants who are just trying to live their lives like anyone else.
Now as far as slander goes, the courts would need to decide if malice was involved in the statements that at least one of them has openly admitted to being* false.
Of course this could all just be avoided by not telling lies.
Lol WITF does that even mean? Leave it to Democrats to say the thing that people care about and promise to do something about it?
ARE YOU OKAY?
Maybe instead of resorting to exaggerated dismissals and suggesting I lack sanity, think about it for a minute because I think once you do, it's pretty obvious.
What they should do about it is use it to win and keep Trump out of the White House. If they turn it into a criminal law issue it'll confuse the matter and turn what should be an argument about right vs. wrong into legal vs. illegal. There exists a realm of behavior, quite a large realm in fact, of things that are deplorable but not illegal. Such as waving an ISIS flag, or walking around in a Hitler moustache and armband. That's where Trump's behavior fits.
This is why when a Nazi gets criticized, the first thing they do is cry "free speech". Because by making it a legal matter, they're picking the best hill for them to fight on. They skip the question of whether their behavior is reprehensible, and fight a battle they can win - whether it's legal.
So if you want to do Trump the biggest favor imaginable, decide to fight this in the courts. Make the question "Is it legal to be racist" because we all know the answer is yes, and even if it wasn't the courts (especially in red Ohio) are heavily in Trump's favor and have repeatedly shown willingness to help him out. That way we can have a dismissal and headlines "Trump wins again" and pictures of him with a big smile on his face. See: Just about every past time Trump has been brought to court, or charged with impeachment.
Fixed the title. I read nothing to suggest that Trump or Vance are currently in any danger of being arrested in Springfield, Ohio.
Yeah, they do not "face immediate arrest" there have been calls to arrest them, but they face nothing.
I know the hexbear community loves that comic. Where is it from and what is the context?
