Any idea how to fix my phone?
This is replacing the normal startup sequence.
E: now the screen is whiting out but I can still send and receive calls by typing in numbers.

If it's not a damaged display/cable to the display causing that, it would be the ROM it's loading. Maybe a byte got corrupted somehow.
I'd be wary of messing with it in that state, if you can't possibly replace it should the fix make it worse. Did you try removing the battery for 30s?
I will probably replace it. It's just a hassle but not a big deal at the end of the day thankfully.
