It's more than a base model new car! A Civic and Corolla are both under 25k for the base model (22k MSRP for the Corolla) and they're not the most basic cars, a Mitsubishi Mirage is 17k base MSRP.
Yes, which is to say that after over 100 years of improving technology and economies of scale, the customer is still spending just as much. Any decreased costs never made it to the consumer's pocket.
